A Big Thank You to First Horizon Bank! ???? We are incredibly grateful to First Horizon Bank for their generous support of the Stowe Family YMCA Capital Campaign! Their commitment to our growth helps us continue making a meaningful impact in our community. Not only did they present a generous donation to our CEO, Sharon Padgett, but they also provided 100 Hornets/First Horizon Bank basketballs for kids in our Youth Sports and Afterschool programs! These gifts will bring smiles, fun, and opportunities for young athletes to grow and play. Thank you, First Horizon Bank, for believing in our mission and investing in the future of our community! ?? #FirstHorizonBank #GastonYMCA #CommunitySupport #YouthSports

Leadership, Laughter, and…Potatoes? ?? Today, our CEO, Sharon Padgett, was the guest speaker for Leadership Gaston, delivering an engaging and insightful talk on?“Leadership and the Potato!” She explored different leadership styles and shared practical ways to be a successful leader—encouraging attendees to be?Zappers?(those who energize and uplift) rather than?Sappers?(those who drain and discourage). In true Sharon fashion, she blended inspiration with humor, even incorporating a?Mr. Potato Head?to drive home her points! ???? We’re grateful for her leadership and the positive impact she makes every day. #LeadershipGaston #YMCALeadership #BeAZapper #StrongerTogether

Our very own Sharon Padgett, CEO of the Gaston County Family YMCA, recently sat down with Maney and Lauren on Kiss 95.1 FM to discuss the incredible relief efforts the Gaston County Family YMCA has spearheaded on behalf of the North Carolina Alliance of YMCAs, Inc. in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Sharon shares how more than 18 participating YMCAs have stepped up to provide vital support including transporting supplies, providing shelter and evacuation, and even hot showers and power for communities in Western North Carolina. With teamwork at its core, YMCAs have delivered essential supplies through six large box-truck loads (and counting) to areas like YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly, the YMCA of Western North Carolina, and the Williams YMCA of Avery County. Sharon also highlights the impactful ways you can continue to get involved to help those in need during this time. Together, we are stronger, and our collective impact has made a meaningful difference in rebuilding lives. We're grateful to every YMCA and community member who has contributed. Let’s keep this incredible momentum going! Hurricane Helen Relief Update from our drop-off point in Avery County: We recently received an inspiring update from Trey Oakley, CEO of the Williams YMCA of Avery County, one of the YMCA locations your donations are directly impacting. As Trey shared, "The destruction we’ve seen is almost indescribable." Roads are washed out, power lines are down, and homes are damaged, but the resilience of these communities is undeniable. At the Williams YMCA, Trey described how they’ve become "a collection and distribution site as well as a shelter for 130 first responders." Your contributions are helping provide immediate relief to families in need. Trey, is a master motivator and connector and is leading volunteers and agencies like Samaritan's Purse to coordinate efforts swiftly and effectively. However, the work is far from over. With cold weather approaching, Trey emphasized, "Ongoing weekly support will be essential." The community needs: - Heavy blankets and sleeping bags - Warm clothing (adults, children, and babies) - Thermal socks, jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves - PPE like chemical-resistant suits and respirators due to toxic water and mud https://lnkd.in/e2fXT4HY Please continue to bring your donations to the Pharr, Warlick, and Stowe YMCAs. Let's ensure these communities are prepared for the months ahead. THANK YOU for everything you all are doing! Together, we can get through this! #NCStrong #HurricaneHelene #HurricaneRelief #hurricane #gastoncountyfamilyymca #WilliamAveryCountyYMCA #YMCAStrongerTogether #northwesterncarolinas #ymcablueridge #belmontnc #stanleync #mounthollync #gastonianc #mcadenvillenc
