Gardere Initiative

So many smiling faces in Gardere for the unveiling last Thursday! Thank you to Mayor Sharon Weston Broome, Vernadine Mabry, MPA (Director of DHDS), Karen Lee (President of the South Burbank Crime Prevention District), our wonderful Councilman Rowdy Gaudet, and everyone who made today so special. These two new mobile units—among the first of their kind in the state—will bring vital resources to our community, expanding access to support with rent and utilities, Head Start registration, pro bono legal services, Employ BR job assistance, and more. They’ll even provide interpreters when needed. This is a huge step forward for our community! Also, a big thank you to?DHDS and Clay Young?for the wonderful pictures!

A Heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Patricia Minnis and Her Students from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology! This summer, Dr. Minnis and her dedicated students made a significant impact by conducting vital hearing and literacy screenings for all our summer and afterschool program participants. Their commitment to our community continues with weekly follow-up appointments, allowing us to identify and address the unique needs of our youth. Together, we are empowering our students to overcome challenges and thrive in their educational journeys. Thank you for your invaluable support!

Today I got to spend some time with some new friends from the Gardere Initiative in Baton Rouge. They have been working to provide children and families throughout the Gardere Community with fundamental services and resources that are unavailable to them. They are doing incredible work! Today, we had the opportunity to visit Gardere Initiative and St. John's United Methodist Church (@the shepherds) and had the opportunity to interact with the children here. The shepherds is a client’s choice food pantry that offers food supports to families or individuals in need around Gardere area. Church has an important role in promoting community development especially through engagement In initiatives aimed at uplifting the welfare of the communities where they are situated, St John’s Methodist church in this area is living by this.

Members of Jacobs Baton Rouge, Louisiana wastewater utility operations team joined businesses, community organizations and District 3 City Councilman Rowdy Gaudet for a “day on” during the Gardere Initiative Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day January 15. Volunteers assisted with cleanup and revitalization ??♀? in the Gardere neighborhood, and participated in a literacy and community resource fair ??. It was an ideal opportunity to connect with neighbors and honor the legacy of Dr. King with inclusion, community spirit and a little hard work.? ?#wedothingsright #weliveinclusion #community.

To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we collaborated with the Gardere Initiative and Line4Line for a community clean-up and resource fair. Our team members had such a meaningful time supporting the Gardere neighborhood's revitalization efforts and connecting with our beloved Baton Rouge community. We’re so proud to honor the lessons of Dr. King, deepen our commitment to giving back, and invest in the community we call home.
