关于我们
Gapingvoid is an end-to-end culture design firm that specializes in building ideal cultures in organizations. The team are each leading experts in cross-disciplinary fields who, together, align organizational outcomes with meaning and purpose at work to drive productivity, shareholder value, employee engagement and turn customers into fans. They have designed a unique process by which they gain a deep understanding of human motivation, and execute change projects that are scalable and sustainable; solving hard people problems that include digital transformation, improving customer experience, smart risk-taking, and building cultures that encourage and adopt disruptive innovation. Tactics for change often revolve around reframing work experiences, storytelling, and integrating cultural norms into the end to end employee experience. Over just the last few years Gapingvoid has helped organizations as diverse as the US Department of Defense, United States Air Force, MIT Sloan School, Microsoft, VMware, HCA, Roche/Genentech, and the University of Southern California. These projects have addressed challenges including fostering cultures of innovation, enhancing student and patient experiences, and creating tools for socializing new cultures.

There are TWO major cities in business: CARE MORE: Where you win by caring deeper than competitors. CARE LESS: Where you stop worrying so much about human connection and start obsessing over things like “efficiencies.” Southwest just switched hubs and didn’t purchase a return ticket. For 50 years, they were CARE MORE's model citizen—an airline that was actually human. Then came last Tuesday: the day "Southwest became like every other airline." The most dangerous words in business: "let's be like everyone else." Culture isn't a perk. It's what you're willing to leave on the table when everyone says grab it. Choose your city wisely. #gapingvoid #leadership #culture #caremore #business #southwest

The Agony of Change: What Got You Here Won’t Get You There Your technical excellence got you this far. Precision. Expertise. Delivering results. But moving from senior associate to partner—or from partner to equity—requires a different skill set. Leadership. Influence. The ability to elevate others, not just yourself. That shift can feel uncomfortable. Leading isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about creating an environment where others can step up. The transition isn’t easy. But the agony of change is the start of something good. The key to sustainable success isn’t just doing great work—it’s helping others achieve it too. Are you ready to step up? #Leadership #CareerGrowth #WhatGotYouHereWontGetYouThere #TheAgonyOfChange #LawFirmLeadership #PartnershipAccelerator Thank you Gapingvoid Culture Design Group

"For sale. Children's shoes. Never worn." Hemingway wrote six words that tell an entire tragedy. Not in what they say, but in what they don't. We thought of this recently when Elon's "Tell us five things" email landed in federal inboxes. Everyone obsessed over the logistics, but the real message was in the signal - never said but implied: "Everything changes now." The takeaway for all of us not in government is that powerful communication isn't always in what we say—but in what we choose not to. In our signals. It's how we treat the waiter. Our Tuesday outfit choice. The tilt of our head under pressure. The real question: What are our actions saying that words never could? #leadership #decisionmaking #culture #teamwork #gapingvoid #culturescience #culturedesign #elonmusk #ernesthemingway

If you’ve ever tried reading an old classic, you may have noticed just how dense it was. There’s a reason: cost. Before the printing press, a book cost $30-50K in today’s money. When something costs that much, it better be worth reading a hundred times. There were no fad books made, just the stuff people kept wanting to come back to. Eventually the printing press came along, reducing the price of books over time by 99.9%, and our relationship with the act of reading changed with it. Now, some think AI is doing the same to thinking. A joint study between Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon found that as humans rely on AI, they use less critical thinking, leading to “the deterioration of cognitive faculties that ought to be preserved.” Like calculators destroying our ability to do mental math, AI may erode our ability to think critically. Yes it frees us up to do more "creative" stuff but in reality, it just moves us more to the middle. #gapingvoid #culturedesign #culturescience #innovation #mindset #leadership #culture

"Culture isn’t just a policy or a perk. It’s what you’re willing to leave on the table when everyone tells you to grab it.?" This is a hot topic in my household for two reasons. (1) My husband is a pilot and all airline news becomes dinner table discussion. (2) Southwest Airlines played an important role in our 5 year, long-distance, mil-mil relationship. I hated the Southwest boarding process. It stressed me out and required way more eye contact and talking to strangers than I preferred. Then I fell in love with a man that lived on the other side of the country. We lived that way for 5 years. Our schedules were unpredictable, and Southwest became a must. 4 out of 5 years I was an A-list member. We saw each other every 2 weeks, each taking a monthly trip across country. The ability to change flights with no fees, snag last minute military fares, and fly day-of standby on different flight when works schedules shifted is what made our relationship affordable. It was so impactful, that we featured Southwest Airline customized donuts at our wedding desert table, alongside our favorite hot air balloons, and Mt. Kilimanjaro (our honeymoon adventure). I'm a little sad to see the shift. And this write-up by Gapingvoid Culture Design Group captures the reality so well.

Is AI the answer? If so, what question are we asking? Last week, in an interview on the BBC, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie warned that AI might be making us stupid, and Ethan Mollick?shared a conversation between Ezra Klein and Ben Buchanan on the reality of Artificial General Intelligence—machines that could outperform humans in many intellectual tasks. So, I explored this one question in my latest newsletter (linked below). What question do you think AI is answering? Featuring another serendipitous piece of art from Gapingvoid Culture Design Group from One Question 2016.

“Every government is a parliament of whores. The trouble is, in a democracy, the whores are us.” – PJ O’Rourke. As you probably know already, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, is being accused of fraud, bribery, and receiving kickbacks from foreign countries. Who knows if he’s guilty. What’s interesting about this is it’s not really about politicians, good or bad. It’s about the American public. Politicians haven’t suddenly gotten sleazier. Politics has always been a sleazy business. The law hasn't changed. It’s us who’ve changed - our perception of power, corruption, and accountability. We’ve mastered the art of selective outrage. Our principles have become situational conveniences, easily adjusted based upon which side you’re on. The real corruption isn’t happening in City Hall or Washington, it’s in our willingness to look away when it’s convenient. Is that a culture we’re willing to live with? Only we can answer that. #gapingvoid #culture #culturescience #culturedesign #leadership #innovation #mindset
