?? What a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we work together! ??? Yesterday—yes, another Saturday working in the world of education and edtech—our team helped lead the South Florida Showdown. Love this team! ?? This Minecraft competition between the winning teams from Broward County Public Schools, The School District of Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools was an incredible testament to the power of collaboration. ?? Nine teams of students from across South Florida came to the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation at Nova Southeastern University to battle it out in a sustainable schools challenge. ?? Huge congratulations to the teams that prevailed with their winning designs that included rooftop gardens, clean power generation, and water conservation techniques! Huge THANK YOU to the coaches who have been working with these students and providing leadership and mentoring to the students each year. Huge THANK YOU to the district leaders who centrally support and advocate for these programs in their organizations. And a huge THANK YOU to all the cosponsors, partners, and additional folks who worked to make this a reality. ??? It truly takes a village. I’ll try to tag everyone involved but will fail miserably. Minecraft Education Esports is a dynamic vehicle for teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity, empowering students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to learn, thrive, and find joy in the experience. The South Florida Showdown was a remarkable display of hard work and innovation by 45 students from three school districts. In just 30 minutes, teams went head-to-head to design a climate-resilient school. A special congratulations to the Banana Split team from Broward County—the only all-girl team in the competition—who took home the trophy in the elementary school division! ?????? Women Leading Ed: A national network of district and state education leaders that support and advance women's leadership through research, advocacy and engagement. ?? GameChanger Girls (Bronwyn Stuckey): A free esports and game design program for girls aged 10-15, creating a safe, inclusive space where they design their games, compete in tournaments, and connect with a global community building tech skills and confidence. Being a part of a marginalized group shouldn't mean that everything has to be an uphill battle. It can be easy to brush off or underestimate the struggles that someone might face if you haven't been in their position. That's why I strongly believe in leveling the playing field for everyone, whether someone is at a disadvantage due to disability, gender-based discrimination, neurodiversity, or any other factor. One educator who embodies this philosophy is Aaron Bluestein from The Menta Education Group, whom I have had the pleasure of working with for some time now at Gameplan. ??
