“Touch grass” is mental wellbeing advice you might have heard before.
It’s a funny phrase for sure, but Gen Z might be onto something with this one.
Don't worry. I'm not telling you to literally hug a tree or start a conversation with a squirrel. Studies show that simply spending time in natural environments has been shown to reduce negative emotions, such as anger and sadness.
I can hear you in the back. “But what if it’s too cold to go outside?”
Well my answer for you is: go anyway.
??Is it snowing? Build a snowman.
??Is it raining? Jump in some puddles.
Spending time outside reduces negative emotions on both the chilly AND the warm days. Nature’s magic is still there for you whether you go for a hike, have a snowball fight, or just take a stroll around the neighborhood.
So, since this Saturday is National Play Outside Day, I thought I’d invite you to put down your phone, step outside, and go "touch grass," or whatever the kids are saying these days. Whether you need to bundle up or slap on some sunscreen, remember that fresh air and a little movement can do wonders for your mood and energy.
See you outside! ??
P.S. Don’t forget to log those heart minutes ??
