In our continued celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Gallagher ordered a selection of breads and sweet treats from Vargas Bakery in Highlandtown. Vargas is owned and operated by our pro bono clients José Vargas Campos and Angela Castillo Ojeda. Lawyers Jared Dvornicky and Ella Aiken as well as paralegal Julie Pfanstiel Smith, CEDS began working with the couple in 2018, and just last year the Gallagher team was successful in obtaining U-Visa approval for the duo. “They are such a wonderful, hardworking, entrepreneurial family,” Jared said of the business owners. Jose, originally from Huaquechula, Mexico, and his wife were featured in the 2023 American Folklife Center Homegrown Foodways Film Series: “Baltimore and New Orleans: El Camino del Pan a Baltimore,” produced by University of Maryland American Studies Professor Sarah Fouts Andy Dahl of Nutria Productions, and documentarian Fernando López. In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Gallagher attorneys and staff engaged in “The Cuisine of Cuba” cooking class at Schola. On the menu was arroz y frijoles negros, lechon asado, croquetas de jamon, fried plantains, and caramel flan. Meet Mark Saudek. Mark is a longtime Gallagher litigator who handles complicated, high-stakes commercial cases in federal and state courts. His practice focuses on litigation of business disputes, antitrust claims, noncompetition, trade secret, intellectual property, internal investigations, and fiduciary disputes. Mark and his wife, Christine, live in Baltimore and have three children. Last week he and his daughter Paige spent the evening volunteering with the Gallagher team to serve dinner to guests at the Franciscan Center.?We love to have family members join our volunteer efforts!

Gallagher’s season of six summer associates has come to a close. During a 10-week program, law school students engaged in client project tours, delivered presentations for the firm, drafted memos, experienced the city’s culture, set sail, and mastered pasta-making techniques. Our attorneys enjoyed sharing their backgrounds, experiences, and professional tips with Tyler Fultz, Mumtahina T., Rebecca Hill, Danielle Poindexter, Megan Killpatrick, and Kata Kylliainen. We thank the students and wish them well in their legal careers.
