Harnessing diversity to advance biopharma discovery and precision medicine
关于我们
We are building the largest longitudinal cohort in the Americas to power precision health at scale for all. Our goal is to improve diagnostic testing and accelerate drug discovery in diverse underserved populations. We are focused on Latin America and our diaspora populations throughout the world including founder populations in the Americas, those who identify as Hispanic/Latino, Black or African American, Asian American, American Indian/Alaska Native, First Nations, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander as well as people who self identify as belonging to two or more of these groups. Core to our mission is building trust with the communities we serve and long term partnerships with communities, researchers, clinicians, and most of all patients and their families. This is your biobank and for the benefit of all. If we build it, we can decide how the data are used. And no one is going to do it for us, so let’s roll up our sleeves and “time to build.” Join us! Este biobanco es tuyo y para todo el continente porque si lo construimos juntos podemos decidir cómo se usan los datos y con que fines. Nadie lo va a hacer por nosotros así que bienvenido a nuestro esfuerzo. Unete!

Exciting discoveries shared at the American Society of Human Genetics annual conference by Carlos D. Bustamante on behalf of Galatea Bio Inc. during his presentation 'Enabling Precision Health at Scale with Oxford Nanopore Sequencing', including the many structural variants missed by short-read WGS in the NHLBI NIH supported Consortium on Asthma among African-ancestry Populations in the Americas (CAAPA). These discoveries - and more to come - promise to enhance genomic diversity representation and reduce health inequities. Thanks to Monica D Campbell and Paige Haffener, PhD for also sharing this work. The session was topped off by Rosemary Sinclair Dokos and her update on what's new at Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Powerful examples of how Oxford Nanopore is bridging the gap!

We're excited to be heading to Denver! We have so much in store for the American Society of Human Genetics, from the latest AI-driven innovations for rare diseases, hereditary conditions, and the NICU. Check out our busy schedule with our world-class leading laboratory collaborators from Broad Clinical Labs, Galatea Bio Inc., Nurture Genomics, Gene Kids (Intermountain Health) and BadgerSeq, including many posters from partners and customers at: https://bit.ly/4hm7l9c #Genetics #WholeGenomeSequencing #PrecisionMedicine #ASHG2024

If you are attending ASHG, come to my talk at the Fabric Workshop, where I will share work we have been doing with diverse populations to improve the translation of genomics for precision medicine for all.
Speakers from organizations at the forefront of combined monogenic and polygenic research will present their work leveraging emerging knowledge and their vision for providing genomic medicine care at population scale. They will share updates on developing tools, establishing large cohorts with high diversity, and putting a “rare and common” paradigm into clinical practice. Happy to share our latest paper led by the extraordinary Dr. Sonia Moreno Grau. Our team at Galatea Bio Inc. and Genomelink conducted a comprehensive exploration of common cardiometabolic PRS traits from the PGS Catalog, with a focus on enhancing performance across diverse ethnic groups.

What will it take to make precision health a global reality? This month, Nature Medicine presents a special Focus dedicated to precision health. As healthcare becomes increasingly data-driven and precise, we ask what it means to deliver precision health — that is, the tailoring of preventive or treatment approaches to groups or individuals on the basis of certain characteristics — in different geographical and clinical contexts. This issue includes a variety of news, opinion, review and original research articles on critical areas and challenges that must be addressed to make precision health a global reality. ?? Exciting research from the Galatea Bio Inc. team. The study addressed the challenge of portability of polygenic risk scores (PRS) derived from European across other populations. Through a comprehensive evaluation of PRS models across Africans, Europeans, East Asians, and South Asians for 14 conditions, significant performance enhancements are proposed by utilizing ancestry-specific models. These findings underscore the potential for more equitable PRS application across diverse populations. https://lnkd.in/gthsrZ2S #HealthEquity #geneticDiversity
