Last week, GRU sent 40,000 letters to water customers as part of a federally mandated effort to identify lead service lines in utility networks nationwide. While we are not aware of any lead service lines in our system, most of our inventory is currently labeled as "unknown" since we don't yet know the pipe material for customer's private service lines. On Tuesday, Nov. 13, GRU’s Energy & Business Services team hosted their biggest solar car kit adventure yet! Residential efficiency coordinators Will and PK guided over 50 cub scouts from Pack 454 in building their own solar-powered cars and learning about GRU’s services. We were thrilled to help prep the troop for their upcoming Pinewood Derby.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, our Energy & Business Services team represented GRU at the Upper Room Ministries Senior Citizen and Caregivers Fair. They connected with attendees, shared energy-saving tips, and answered questions, all with a focus on supporting our senior citizens and caregivers. Electric Lineworker, Alvin, and AMI Operations Manager, Doug, represented GRU at Eastside High School’s Career Day on Nov. 6. They engaged students with an interactive demonstration showcasing the steady hands lineworkers need to do their jobs safely and effectively. Alvin and Doug also highlighted the AMI Installer role as a great entry-level opportunity for soon-to-be graduates interested in a career in utilities.
