On Tuesday, the GFF hosted its second Mass Timber Hub in Savannah! A motivated crowd of developers, architects, and forestry industry professionals gathered to discuss the benefits and challenges of building with mass timber in Georgia. Guests heard from various speakers and wrapped up the day with a tour of Savannah's first mass timber building: Ann Street Lofts. Last week, the Mass Timber Hub series kicked off in Columbus! Buzzing with local architects, developers, and forestry industry professionals, the gathering spurred the conversation of mass timber construction in Columbus - exploring the opportunities and understanding its challenges. The discussion included various mass timber experts: ?? Laura Cullen, PE, Woodworks Regional Director, provided an overview of how mass timber has successfully been integrated into commercial and residential development throughout Georgia. ???Bill de St. Aubin, LEED AP with the Sizemore Group, shared his experience with mass timber construction in Atlanta. ??David C. Johnson, Principal Managing Broker with NAI G2, Derek Rathford, CEO of SmartLam North America, and Scott Allen, AIA, NCARB, Architect with 2WR+Partners discussed the unique position of mass timber in this region, focusing on a sustainable supply chain with an abundant resource grown right here in Georgia.
