We raise and mobilize resources to support the power and brilliance of girls and gender-expansive youth of Color. Our mission is to resource and support transformative organizing work that dismantles systems of oppression in the U.S. and territories. We’re founded on an infrastructure that reflects our values, a culture of partnership, healing, reciprocity, and love.

    Join us for an urgent and timely discussion with Dr. Monique Couvson, Ed.D., an award-winning author, social justice scholar, and national leader in advancing educational justice for Black girls. Recognized by TIME as a racial equity gap “Closer,” Dr. Couvson has spent nearly four decades working to dismantle systems that criminalize and push Black girls out of schools and into pathways of incarceration. Her groundbreaking research, including the acclaimed book and documentary Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools, has shaped national conversations about how schools can be places of healing, protection, and empowerment for Black girls. We will discuss: ? The vital role of schools in affirming and protecting the sacredness of Black girls. ? Strategies to resist the growing backlash against gender-specific and culturally relevant education. ? Advocacy tools and movement-building efforts to end the criminalization of Black girls in schools. After Dr. Couvson’s keynote, we’ll move into a dynamic conversation with Sharonne Navas, C.E.F., Co-Founder & Executive Director of the Equity in Education Center, and explore how we can take action together to create affirming, equitable educational spaces. ??     Carlynn Greene exemplifies the power of investing in young leaders of Color. ? Carlynn Greene is the incredible founder of Scholarship Guru! ? Earning 30 scholarships to fund her studies at the University of North Texas, Carlynn has been helping students unlock scholarships through free resources on YouTube since 2017. ?? In 2024, she received a $50K grant from TikTok & MACRO as part of their Black Creatives Incubator program and is now launching Edfluential by Scholarship Guru, a platform designed to help businesses, nonprofits, and creators amplify their social impact while achieving financial sustainability. ?? Most recently she was named Forbes 30 Under 30 in Education! Keep shining, Carlynn! ??

    It's Black Climate Week and we are uplifting environmental advocate and marine conservationist Demi Johnson! Demi Johnson is a high schooler from Mississippi's Gulf Coast whose oyster farm project is helping restore the region's devastated oyster reefs. With support from the Department of Marine Resources, Demi's "Off Bottom Oysters" initiative has gained national recognition, including a top spot in National Geographic's Slingshot Challenge. Demi has raised over 1,000 oysters, through an aquaculture practice called oyster gardening. Her initiative is helping clean Mississippi's waters and restore the oyster reefs which provide protection and a habitat for over 300 marine species. Demi's passion for environmental stewardship offers hope for the future of the Gulf Coast and inspires young conservationists nationwide.     Today G4GC honors the legacy of Chinedu Valentine Okobi and the Sabbatical Program of his namesake. Chinedu Valentine Okobi was a poet, devoted father, Morehouse graduate, son, and brother – today, February 13, would have been his 43rd birthday. In October 2018, Chinedu was killed by San Mateo County sheriffs. Created by Chinedu's family and administered by the California Black Freedom Fund and Grantmakers for Girls of Color's Black Girl Freedom Fund, the Chinedu Valentine Okobi Sabbatical Program supports the healing, rest, and joy for leaders of Black power-building and racial justice organizations. G4GC remains deeply humbled by the graciousness of the Okobi family and inspired by Chinedu Valentine Okobi's legacy. Photos by Darius Riley.     Did you watch the Super Bowl last night? ?? Then you likely saw the incredible logo artwork by Tahj "Queen Tahj" Williams. Queen Tahj, known for her intricate beadwork honoring Black Masking culture, is the first person to handcraft the Super Bowl logo and theme art! Inspired by New Orleans' heritage, Queen Tahj's artwork reflects the city's deep-rooted culture. Her designs blend traditional Mardi Gras elements with modern creativity. A cybersecurity engineer by day, she hopes her success will inspire recognition for local artists in larger platforms. Queen Tahj's feature in Super Bowl LIX is a beautiful illustration of the importance of providing young people with platforms to share their unique traditions with the world. We not only honor their identity and unique heritage but also enrich our society by fostering appreciation for their diverse backgrounds.
