That's why the latest updates to NFPA 70B, specifically Section 4.2.4.2 outlining the Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP), are so crucial. These changes ensure that our maintenance practices align with the latest standards, ultimately enhancing safety and efficiency across the board. Now, let’s take a look into the key elements of the updated EMP: 𝐍𝐅𝐏𝐀 𝟕𝟎𝐁: 𝟒.𝟐.𝟒.𝟐 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐌𝐏 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: (1) An electrical safety program that addresses the condition of maintenance (2) Identification of personnel responsible for implementing each element of the program (3) Survey and analysis of electrical equipment and systems to determine maintenance requirements and priorities (4) Developed and documented maintenance procedures for equipment (5) A plan of inspections, servicing, and suitable tests (6) A maintenance, equipment, and personnel documentation and records-retention policy (7) A process to prescribe, implement, and document corrective measures based on collected data  (8) A process for incorporating design for maintainability in electrical installations (9) A program review and revision process that considers failures and findings for continuous improvement Let's embrace these changes as opportunities to elevate our maintenance practices and pave the way for a safer, more reliable future. Together, let's spark innovation and efficiency in electrical maintenance! 💪🔌 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐅𝐏𝐀 𝟕𝟎𝐁 𝐚𝐧𝐝/𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐌𝐏 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐥𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐚 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚.𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐭@𝐠𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐥𝐞.𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭/𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 (𝟕𝟏𝟕) 𝟒𝟏𝟖-𝟔𝟏𝟔𝟔. #ElectricalSafety #NFPA70B #MaintenanceExcellence Matt Hall Becky Becker, SPHR Karla Koicuba Devin Langan, PMP, CExP, CSSGB Robert Langan Alexander Langan Craig Glatfelter Stephanie Lake Tyler Quinn, RICP® Abby Wurzbach Lesli Kunkle Lisa Griegel Joe Derk Susan Dworsak Lori Renne Kevin Flounlacker Helen King (Wiley) Ashley E. 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐅𝐏𝐀 𝟕𝟎𝐁 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 The NFPA 70B regulations have recently undergone significant changes, impacting electrical codes. Let’s delve into the key updates. 𝟏. 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 “𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝” 𝐭𝐨 “𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝”: o Previously, NFPA 70B was a “Recommended Practice” for electrical equipment maintenance. However, with the latest update, it has transitioned to a “Standard.” o The critical shift lies in the language: “should” has become “shall,” signifying a mandatory requirement. o OSHA is the enforcing authority for these mandatory “Standards” and can issue citations for non-compliance. 𝟐. 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 (𝐄𝐌𝐏): o All industrial, institutional, commercial, and large multifamily residential complexes must establish an Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP). o The EMP outlines preventive maintenance for electrical, electronic, and communication systems and equipment. o An EMP Coordinator must be designated to oversee the implementation and operation of the EMP. 𝟑. 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬: o Maintenance intervals take center stage. o Mandatory scopes of work and maintenance intervals are categorized by equipment type. o The frequency of maintenance is determined based on the physical condition of the electrical equipment. 𝟒. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: o NFPA 70B emphasizes proactive measures to prevent failures and accidents. o By adhering to the new standards, organizations can enhance safety and reliability. 𝟓. 𝐔𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬: o Stay tuned for future posts in the coming weeks that will dive into more specifics, including EMP details and requirements for regular Infrared Thermography Inspections and Arc Flash Studies.
