Teachers are lifelong learners. What better professional development for our student teachers than to network with each other and to meet with our Human Resources experts? These future educators are already a part of our school community, working side-by-side with our veteran teachers in our classrooms through their student teaching experiences. The entire HR team, including incoming Superintendent Dr. Henry St. Pierre, was available to answer questions and offer coaching on everything from resume writing to what to expect from the onboarding process. You Matter! #FZEquipToExcel

Transportation has been turning heads across our 126 square miles, changing their bus decorations with the seasons. A special congratulations to Ms. Tina! She won the department's costume and decorating contest with her spot-on Miss Frizzle and the Magic School Bus - complete with lessons for students to take in as they hop on and off at their stops each day. Making every minute count. #FZJoy ??JConoyer

Gary “Toby” Clodfelter will join Fort Zumwalt School District as the new Director of Construction, Renovation and Building Systems. Clodfelter, who has held similar positions with Parkway School District and, more recently, Special School District, has managed projects large and small, including Special School District’s Central Transportation Center. This work and his work as a general contractor bring a variety of experiences in managing money, staffing and time. He joins the district at a key point in the facilities planning process. Clodfelter will be leading the capital improvement projects made possible through voter approval of a 2022 no-tax-levy-increase bond issue. That will include working with his predecessor Lisa Koester to: -move students into the new additions at North High and North Middle. -begin sitework on the new Transportation Center near Iffrig and Salt River Roads. -plan and bid summer projects such as interior improvements and concrete work. Koester, who is in her 25th year with the department, has announced her retirement after serving almost 10 years as director.

Meet Mrs. Thayer, East High Class of 2011 and Ms. Freihofer, West High Class of 2015. What do a high school math teacher and an elementary special education teacher have in common? They are alum of the FZSD Grow Your Own Teacher Program. Thayer, Freihofer and 17 other Grow Your Own Teachers are in FZ classrooms teaching in hard-to-fill areas (high school math, high school science, special education, industrial technology, speech language pathology, English Language Development). Eight more FZ alum are in college thanks to the GYOT program, which provides winners $4,000 per semester in forgivable loans. Seniors who want to learn more should talk to their counselors, or head to go.FZSD.us/WorkForFZSD and click on Apply Now, then type GROW in the search bar. Applications close Oct. 14! #Work4FZSD
