Two "Beginner Mountain Biking" classes will be held this Saturday, Oct. 19, at Centennial Park as part of the Outdoor Fayetteville program. A youth (8-15) class will be held at 9 a.m., followed by one for adults (16+) at 10:30 a.m. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gy7X_xXZ The Beginner Mountain Biking Class is designed to introduce individuals to the exciting world of mountain biking in Northwest Arkansas. Our instructors will cover the following aspects: choosing the right bike and safety gear, bike maintenance, trail etiquette, and fundamental riding skills. By addressing these key areas, this class aims to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to enjoy the thrill of mountain biking while prioritizing safety, responsible trail use, and environmental stewardship. To register for the class, participants must possess basic riding skills. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes to the program. However, bikes may be provided upon request for individuals 8 and older, taking into consideration the size of our available bikes.

HEADS UP: From 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, the outside southbound lane of N. College Ave. approaching the intersection with E. North St. will merge with the inside lane, because crews will be making improvements to the intersection. Work to be done includes: replace signal pole/mast arm on NW corner; replace signal controller cabinet; install new signal heads and relocate existing ones; install pedestrian push button pole and heads; and run new wiring as needed. REMINDER! ?? The City of Fayetteville is seeking an experienced outdoor muralist for a project on the building at 100 W. Rock St. – and submissions are due Tuesday, Oct. 15. This project seeks to commission original artwork that celebrates Fayetteville’s parks and how we gather, play, create and enjoy natural spaces in our city. The chosen artist will receive $20,000 to install the mural that will be located outside the offices for the Parks, Natural Resources and Cultural Affairs Dept. As Parks Maintenance crews install the Lights of the Ozarks on Fayetteville's Historic Downtown Square, they also do some needed pruning of the trees. These limbs are then sent to the City’s Recycling and Trash Collection facility to be turned into wood-chip mulch, which is available to residents and non-residents throughout the year. To commemorate National Fire Prevention Week, the Fayetteville Fire Department invites the public to its FREE Family Fire Safety Fair on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9-11 a.m. at the Northwest Arkansas Mall. See and interact with fire and safety equipment, and enjoy plenty of activities, such as: ? fire truck rides and tours ? meet firefighters ? smoke house tour ? squirt the firehouse ? fire extinguisher training A limited number of free smoke detectors will be available. The fair also will be the finish line for Saturday’s Hero Half Marathon, a community fundraising event held in partnership with the Fayetteville Firefighters IAFF, Local 2866.
