#FayettevilleARhistory We recently rediscovered these photos of the old Vernon & McIlroy-Moore Produce Warehouse, aka the John Porter Produce Warehouse, from the early '70s. The building at West Ave. and Spring St. is currently undergoing a historic preservation project, which includes masonry stabilization, new windows and doors, and structural and foundation repair of the historic building. Built c. 1906, the warehouse is a significant surviving relic of the region's produce industry. The property has been owned by the City and University of Arkansas since 1990, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. During tonight's Lights of the Ozarks Light Night, you'll notice new bollards around Fayetteville's Downtown Square to block traffic and create protected areas for walking. Transportation Crews installed these retractable bollards at each corner, because they take less time and energy to set up than temporary barricades previously used for road closures during events on the square. These bollards only will be used for approved street closures through the City’s permitting system. On Nov. 21, the City of Fayetteville opened Fire Station No. 2, located at 138 W. North St. Speakers for the event included Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan and Fire Chief Brad Hardin. The new station replaces the existing Fire Station No. 2, located on Garland Ave. near the University of Arkansas campus, allowing the existing structure to be repurposed for use as a logistical support building. #FayettevilleBondProjects | This is one of three new fire stations funded by the 2019 Fire Facilities Bond approved by Fayetteville residents.
