In 1901, a group of Fort Worth ladies had a novel idea—literally! At the suggestion of Andrew Carnegie, they asked local gentlemen to donate “the price of a good cigar” to help fund the city’s first public library. And just like that, literature found a home in Fort Worth! This National Cigar Day, let’s celebrate the power of small contributions making a big impact. Our community loves its libraries. The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation provides financial support to enhance educational programming and other library services offered through the Fort Worth Library system. About Us The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation is a 501c3 charity created to provide access for private capital to enhance the City of Fort Worth’s delivery of library services for the benefit of the community. Library Foundation donors ensure that these programs and services remain free to all the residents of Fort Worth. History The Library Foundation was founded in 1993 to address the physical needs of the Central Library. Following the initial successful campaign, Foundation leadership continued to raise money to supplement public funding of the library system. To date, the Foundation has raised nearly $9 million for building renovations, programming for children, teens, and adults, technology enhancements for library services, and collections. As the population of Fort Worth grows, the need for private funding to supplement public funding continues. Mission The mission of The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation is to inspire, secure, and grow philanthropic support and advocacy that benefits the Fort Worth Public Library and our diverse community. Libraries are a part of America’s tapestry and essential to the life of our community. This is one “Coffee with the Chamber” networking event we couldn’t sit out on! Thank you to Cowtown Coliseum for hosting this event this past Friday. Rhonda Ross, our Director of Development, had an amazing time connecting with so many professionals and business leaders in such a unique setting. Rhonda said the highlight of the event was getting to meet real-life longhorns (trained by Lonesome Longhorn) and being able to take pictures with these gentle giants. Events like this truly emphasize the power of community and collaboration in Fort Worth. Thank you to the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for curating such an unforgettable experience. It’s not every day you get to network against the backdrop of Fort Worth history and Texas charm!?
