Beyond Future Shock: How to Thrive in an Accelerating World. In 1970 Alvin Toffler wrote a book titled ‘Future Shock’ where he explored the ‘shattering stress and disorientation (people experience) when exposed to too much change in too short a time’. That was 50 odd years ago and the world is moving even faster and with much more complexity. If we are to reduce stress and improve wellbeing we need to understand how we experience stress specifically as it relates to our future. There are strategies we can employ to begin to understand, learn to cope and then adapt and finally to thrive as we move into the future, even when we experience disruptions and uncertainties. A conscious futurist makes decisions and influences the future for the benefit of more than their own small interests. A conscious futurist is someone who wants to make a positive change in society, create a sustainable development or leave a valuable legacy. The Conscious Futurist model moves people from the bottom of a spiral from Survival, through Responsible and Invested stages to Conscious, and beyond. In the spaces between words, ideas take shape. Between the Lines lie whispers of future possibilities, encoded in patterns we might overlook. Here, we find that the future isn’t defined solely by bold predictions but by interpreting the small, almost invisible indicators waiting to be noticed.

Will AI take the jobs of people designing learning programmes? AI tools produce such great outlines but when we 'breath life into' the programme, that's when it comes alive.
