Like many regions, West Michigan faces a gap between job seekers looking for sustainable careers and employers in need of skilled talent. This initiative builds on decades of workforce innovation in the region, uniting West Michigan Works!, community-based organizations, educators, and employers to create demand-driven talent pipelines that expand access to opportunity. On Tuesday, the FutureFit AI team attended Lightcast and NYC Employment and Training Coalition (NYCETC)’s New York Future-Ready Summit hosted by our partners at the Chinese-American Planning Council. During the discussion, we heard from Lightcast’s Ron Hetrick on critical workforce shortages due to an aging workforce across key industries - which sparked an insightful panel discussion from The State University of New York’s Chris White, Office of the Mayor of New York City's Daniel Liss, and The Walt Disney Company’s Shelby Yunus hosted by Lightcast’s Christopher Laney, EdD, MBA We walked away from the discussion with a few key insights: ?? Critical industries, like healthcare, construction, and manufacturing must get creative to continue to source and develop talent. ?? Identifying transferable skills is only half the battle. We must empower business decision makers to be bold in enabling skills-based talent initiatives. ?? Everyone doesn’t need a four-year degree to succeed. How do we more systematically showcase value for non-four year pathways through community, quality jobs, and quality experiences before shortages become too painful?

?? Big news out of South Carolina! Today marks the launch of FindYourFuture.sc.gov, a first-of-its-kind effort by the SC Coordinating Council for Workforce Development (CCWD) to build a single front door for workforce and education opportunities across the state. At FutureFit AI, we’re proud to have partnered with the CCWD to rapidly develop and launch Future Finder, an AI-powered career portal that helps South Carolinians use their skills and experience to advance their career goals. Future Finder connects users to in-demand jobs, personalized career insights, and training—bridging the gap between talent and opportunity. This is a major step in transforming how states approach workforce development. By integrating systems, centralizing workforce data, and streamlining access to career resources, South Carolina is setting a bold new precedent for what a modern workforce system can be. A huge thank you to South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, CCWD and the 30+ organizations who contributed to this milestone.
