I know this will come as a surprise to many of the folks who follow me on LinkedIn, but... ?? #DoD published the final version of CMMC v.2.13 yesterday! ?? I know, I know...you're all shocked by this news! ?? OK, more seriously, I'm sure your LinkedIn feeds and inboxes are as full as mine with people offering you their take on the revisions. Even though much of #CMMC has remained intact since CMMC 2.0 was announced, there are a lot of interesting little changes that will have a big impact on United States Department of Defense contractors! There are some great people out there who have already shared excellent insights, and I'm sure we'll see even more as everyone reads through all of the documents for the 3rd or 20th time and as formal CMMC assessments begin. You're also going to probably run into conflicting information from different sources. Some of that is natural. After all, NIST SP 800-171 is intentionally vague about certain things to allow for flexibility, and the CMMC rules have tried to embrace some of that flexibility as well. But some of the conflicts will come from people who don't really understand NIST SP 800-171, the CMMC and CUI programs, or the way laws and regulations work. To that end, I encourage you to be thoughtful about the sources you rely upon for information. While it's always good to hear different perspectives, be sure your final decisions are based on trusted information. CMMC requirements will start showing up in contracts in CY2025, so the decisions you make today will have long-lasting implications for your business.
