In the latest episode of?Future of UX, we explore: ? How?digital fatigue?is changing user behavior ? Why?attention spans are shrinking—and what it means for design ? The?dark side of dopamine-driven UX—infinite scroll, notifications, and engagement hacks ? The?ethical dilemma: Should UX designers optimize for?well-being instead of engagement? AI x UX Specialist | Podcast FUTURE OF UX | W&V 100 2023 | Creating great user experiences and exploring AI, Spatial Design & Innovation
You ever opened an app and thought,?“Why doesn’t this feel like it’s made for me?” But lets start from the beginning: something that’s becoming super normal these days: using AI to create content. Whether it’s with ChatGPT, MidJourney, Runway ML, or notebook ml. AI tools have made it ridiculously easy to generate everything from text to visuals—even entire podcasts. Crazy, right? ?? But here’s the real question:?What’s next???? Lately, I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I think it’s generative interfaces. Imagine an app that doesn’t just give you what you’re looking for but?adapts itself?to how you like things. Into minimalist design? It strips away the noise. More of a visual thinker? You get bold images and way less text. It’s like the app evolves with you. Sounds kind of wild, right? But here’s where my head’s at: What does this mean for us as UX designers? Do we start designing less for a “target audience” and more for this?constant evolution? How do we even test that? I don’t have all the answers yet, but it’s something I can’t stop thinking about. Is this the future we’ve been working towards—or just one more layer of complexity? What’s your take? Would love to hear how you see this playing out.

Halloween Special Episode ????? Dark Patterns and the UX Dilemma: Prioritizing User Trust Over Short-Term KPIs??? In today’s digital world, “dark patterns” are increasingly common—design tactics that nudge, or even trick, users into actions they may not fully intend. Think sneaky subscription renewals, hidden fees at checkout, or overbearing “Accept All” cookie banners. These designs can achieve quick wins for business KPIs, like boosting subscriptions and engagement…but at what cost? ???Why Dark Patterns Hurt More Than They Help? While dark patterns can improve short-term metrics, they ultimately erode trust. When users feel manipulated, they’re less likely to come back, leading to higher churn and negative brand perception. Building trust and loyalty is essential for long-term business growth, and dark patterns risk pushing users away. ???What Can Designers Do When KPIs Are Pressuring Them??It’s a challenge we face as designers: KPIs like conversion rates and user engagement often drive business success, but they can clash with ethical design practices. Here’s how we can navigate this: 1???Advocate for User Trust:?Open conversations with stakeholders about how long-term trust translates to sustainable success. Ethical design isn’t just nice to have; it’s a competitive advantage that sets brands apart. 2???Show the Data on Loyalty:?Data-driven insights demonstrating that transparent, user-centered design leads to loyalty, positive reviews, and retention can shift mindsets from quick wins to lasting value. 3???Offer Ethical Alternatives:?Propose ways to meet business needs without sacrificing transparency. Instead of hiding cancellation options, highlight the value of the product and make terms clear. Educated users are more likely to stay because they want to—not because they feel trapped. Let’s prioritize design that respects user agency. Because a loyal, trusting user base is the most powerful KPI of all. What are your thoughts? Have you encountered dark patterns in your work, or are you working to find that balance between KPIs and ethics? New epsiode ??? Quartly Update: Big Changes in the UX-Industry I wanted to share some interesting updates on how AI is impacting UX design, I which I recently covered in my latest podcast episode. Lately, we've been seeing some cool things like: ?? AI-Generated Personas → These are tools that help automate the creation of user personas, which can really speed things up when you're working with a ton of data. But of course, we still need to keep an eye on the accuracy and make sure the data isn’t biased. ?? AI Avatars for Meetings → There are AI avatars now that can stand in for you during Zoom meetings. It’s a big time-saver, though you still want to check in and make sure they’re doing the job right. ?? AI in Accessibility → There are also some exciting tools focused on improving accessibility, making it easier to create inclusive designs that work for everyone. I also share some personal updates, like leading a workshop on generative AI and getting involved in a summer AI project that I couldn't resist joining! Check out the full episode if you're curious to hear more. You can find all links in the comments ? Always happy to chat about these new AI trends and how they're changing the way we work in UX!

#85 Mastering AI in Product Management: Insights and Strategies with John Haggerty This week, I sat down with John Hagerty, founder of?The Product Insider, to dive into the world of AI and product management. We met a few months ago at ITX conference, and let me tell you, his insights on AI-driven products are ??. Here are some key takeaways from our conversation: ???Designing?with?AI: John’s biggest tip??Just start playing. Whether it’s tools like MidJourney or ChatGPT, get your hands dirty, experiment, and have fun with it. It’s all about iterative learning—like building, measuring, and learning, but with prompts. ????Prompt Engineering: This one is huge. John broke down three types: Zero-shot: The system figures it out based on a simple command. Few-shot: Add more details for better accuracy. Chain-of-thought: Lay out the steps and give AI “time to think.” It’s like guiding an intern through tasks. ???AI Product Design vs. Traditional Products: AI products are constantly evolving, like a living thing (John even compared it to parenting ??). The trick? Design with flexibility, so you don’t paint yourself into a corner as the system evolves with user behavior. AI’s not replacing us—it’s augmenting what we do best:?empathy, creativity, and context. Catch the full episode on the?Future of UX?podcast!
