The world of farming is changing fast. New tech, new challenges, and new opportunities. Our mission at CNH is not just to respond to that change, but to anticipate it, so farmers have the tools they need to meet every moment. To do that takes the perfect fusion of insight, design, manufacture and service. And no one understands how to achieve that fusion better than Scott Harris, CNH’s President North America. From the next-level tech behind autonomous tractors to the nuts and bolts of a consistent supply chain, Scott has a full 360 view of our work and how to do it well. To get a peek into Scott’s understanding and knowledge, take a listen to his interview with Tim Hammerich on the Future of Agriculture podcast. From the day-to-day to the possibilities of the far future, it’s a fascinating look at where farm equipment —?and farming —?are headed. https://lnkd.in/gKNypvbn #CNH #CNHIndustrial Case IH #CaseIH

The new Magnum Model Year 2025 is a great step forward in flexible, powerful farm equipment. But we know it’s also more than that: the new Magnum’s groundbreaking fusion of tech and iron is the continuation of one of the most powerful and recognizable legacies in farming, and our customer-driven design process ensures that will always be the case. Chris Dempsey, our Global Director of Product Management and Product Marketing, understands what #Magnum means to American farmers on a personal and professional level, which is why he’s the perfect person to help preserve that heritage and push it into the future. Take a listen to Chris’s conversation with Tim Hammerich’s Future of Agriculture podcast to learn more about why Magnum matters so much, where we’re headed, and why we can’t wait to get there.

AgTech Ecosystem - AgTech Alchemists were everywhere when Tim Hammerich hosted Rhishi P., Sachi Desai, and I on an episode of the Future of Agriculture podcast to talk about the AgTech Alchemy Quarterly. This was a discussion around the initial AAQ (from December 2024), and each of us had a chance to talk about what we are trying to do with the Quarterly, how the process worked, and what we learned and felt like the Quarterly was able to deliver. We also had a chance to talk about what we want the Quarterly to become. Rhishi, Sachi, and I are very happy with the way the initial Quarterly came out and are very appreciative of the work the writers put in to deliver some great content on a wide variety of topics. The really cool thing about the podcast is we are all friends and we were able to discuss a lot of topics with some commentary and some humor. The really big achievement for the first Quarterly was to put some thought leadership from some of the really influential voices in AgTech into a single document to get people thinking about where we are today and where we can and want to go in the future. I really enjoyed recording this podcast episode! Here is a link to the podcast episode on the FOA site: https://lnkd.in/gpSheinG I want to close this post with Tim's disclaimer from the FOA podcast - I think it summarizes the conversation pretty well! "A quick disclaimer: I will admit that this episode does get a little bit wonky because all four of us like to nerd out about agtech, but but it’s also a lot of fun, so stick with it. I think there are some really important concepts discussed. Then after you listen go read the full digest." In 1922 at the age of 13, he turned a profit of $7,800 raising hogs on potato waste and wild horse meat. He bought when the market for hogs couldn't go much lower and benefitted from the turnaround. In the decades that followed, he would use that money to eventually grow an empire worth well over a billion dollars. His many businesses included supplying food to the US Army in World War 2, frozen french fries to McDonalds, fertilizer to farmers around the globe, and much more. The story of J.R. Simplot has so many lessons for all of us in agriculture/agribusiness. I tried to condense as many of them as I could into this 33 minute episode of the Future of Agriculture podcast. Link in the comments. Special thanks to Case IH for sponsoring this quarter of the podcast.

Why isn’t more farmland converted to organic? As of recent estimates: Organic farming accounts for approximately 1.3% of total farmland globally. Despite growing consumer demand for organic products, the share of farmland dedicated to organic agriculture remains small globally. In the United States, less than 1% of total farmland is certified organic. This represents roughly 5.5 million acres of the over 900 million acres of total farmland in the U.S. This relatively small percentage highlights the opportunity for growth in the organic sector, especially given the double-digit growth in organic food demand in recent years. Organic agriculture is constrained not by lack of demand but by the slow pace of converting farmland to organic certification. This three-year conversion period and the financial risks associated with it are barriers that companies like Farmland LP work to address. In the U.S., 40% of farmland is leased. This creates a systemic challenge: tenants lack incentives for long-term investments, like transitioning to organic farming, because they don’t own the land. At the same time, landowners hesitate to invest without direct returns. Farmland LP bridges this gap—providing farmers with opportunities to grow high-value organic crops while transforming land into productive assets. For example, we bought a 4,000-acre property that had been leased for decades, farming alfalfa and industrial corn. The landowner wasn’t incentivized to invest in improvements, and the tenants didn’t want to convert it to organic, knowing someone else might outbid them once the work was done. At Farmland LP, we make the long-term investments needed to convert it to organic, and bring in more farmers to farm higher-value crops. On that same property, we now have seven farming teams, 12 crops—including 600 acres of organic blueberries—and rents that increased from $300/acre to $750/acre. ?? Hear from our Founder and Managing Partner Craig Wichner, about how this strategy benefits both farmers and investors on the Future of Agriculture Podcast with Tim Hammerich: https://lnkd.in/gDsDJYsQ

Data is a doorway to widespread transformation in agriculture — especially when that data is public and free. William Salas, our Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, knows that better than anyone. He's an expert in remote sensing science and Earth observation, with experience at NASA and over a decade under his belt as an academic in Earth observation, sustainability and agricultural production. Bill helped develop OpTIS — a tool that tracks the adoption of sustainable farming practices across the continental United States. With this tool we have a robust understanding of what's happening on the ground in farming regions across America, which allows us to better support sustainable practice adoption. ?? Bill works every day to progress the science and technology behind OpTIS, and to ensure that up-to-date information is available to everyone. By sharing the data available through OpTIS, Regrow and partners are supporting collaboration across the ag industry, promoting research, program development and access to technology. SUNDAY POD WALK* Abraham Lincoln could never eat a cheeseburger because the seasonal and localised nature of the ingredients meant they were never available in the same place at the same time. Enter the cold chain; surely humanity’s most consequential invention. In this “Future of Agriculture” pod, Tim Hammerich and Janette Barnard chart the rise of refrigeration, referencing Nicola Twilley’s book ‘Frostbite: How Refrigeration Changed Our Food, Our Planet, and Ourselves’. It’s a neat history, but this is a pod about the future and their discussion about the lessons for today are the real gold here. Refrigerated food was seen as unnatural, risky and a threat to incumbents. We can learn a lot from the innovators who never gave up on the technology’s potential, the scientists who created the first safety standards for refrigerated food (and a new science - food science!) and the importance of trust in science as underpinning technological adoption and consumer acceptance. ?? https://lnkd.in/gU-JpKXt ? *On Sundays, I walk my dog and listen to podcasts. I share my favourites here!

Software is Feeding the World for Nov 24th, 2024 This week’s edition includes three separate but related topic, about the right metrics to compare performance, the right data to think about unit economics, and the right business model for the context. 1. What is the right metric to measure equipment performance? It draws on comments from Feroz Sheikh (CIO of Syngenta), Craig Rupp, CEO of Sabanto and how smaller equipment can redefine productivity. 2. How did Four Growers, Inc. think about robot unit economics, and where does unit economics need to be for tomato picking robots? 3. What does Jaisimha Rao (CEO of Niqo Robotics ) think about different business models based on the context from his interview with Tim Hammerich of Future of Agriculture podcast Happy Thanksgiving! https://lnkd.in/gTGSY65K
