Last month, a couple of our team members traveled to Philly for Future Labs Live USA, diving into the latest innovations shaping laboratory science. Throughout the conference, data and digital strategy were hot topics. Here’s a recap of key insights our team gathered: ???? ????????: ? From a presentation by Ganymede, we learned that “80-90% of raw data isn’t accessed after 90 days, and nearly 100% after one year.” --> This striking statistic underscores the critical need for robust data strategies to unlock the full potential of our information. ? Throughout the conference, the same sentiment was on repeat: “just because things are digital doesn’t mean data is useful.” --> This makes us think, how can we better contextualize data to transform it into actionable insights? ???? ?????????????? & ?????????????? ????????????????: ? During a presentation, the 20/15 Visioneers shared that “84% of digital transformations fail.” --> Going digital is a challenge. How do we define success, and what steps can make digital transformation a repeatable win? ? During a panel, we heard the reminder that “systems require constant care and feeding.” --> Remember, implementation is just the starting line. A common pitfall is the “set it and forget it” mindset—long-term success demands ongoing attention and iteration. ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ???? ????????????????????: ? Automation often evolves organically, driven by the need for greater research throughput. ? However, automation data generation frequently outpaces data analysis capabilities. --> How can analytics platforms be designed to scale alongside these advancements? It was a joy to learn and converse with experts on the entire range of future lab problems spanning hardware, software, and strategy. Honored to have joined Future Labs Live USA 2024 as a Keynote Panelist! It was a deep dive into the future of lab technology and what’s needed to shape scientific discovery. My first panel, Advancements in Laboratory Technology: Shaping the Future of Scientific Discovery, explored the latest tools and challenges defining the next wave of lab tech. It was inspiring to exchange ideas with Rishi Mahajan, Victoria Mander and Del Ray Jackson, PhD, whose insights brought new angles to this evolving field. In the second panel, Challenges in Automation in Chemistry vs. Biology, we tackled unique hurdles and adaptive solutions across disciplines. Big thanks to my fellow panelists Alexander Godfrey, Anthony Garrison and Vijaya Krishna Veerisetty for the dynamic discussion. Highlights: - Nathan Clark's keynote presentation on “Challenges and Success in Digitalization in the Age of AI” sparked some fantastic conversations around how there's no one solution for all of lab data workflows, so the best thing is to get fit-for-purpose tools and ensure they have modular data and good APIs, to knit them together at an orchestration levels. - We attended standout sessions surrounding Lab Digital Transformation that offered fresh perspectives, including data centralization and standardization leads to increased collaboration within R&D. Future Labs Live USA reminded us of the power of innovation and the importance of collaboration. Last week, we successfully deployed Future Labs Live USA 2024! It was an event full of great meetings, new ideas, valuable insights, dynamic speakers, and a booming expo floor. This has been my third year spearheading the Future Labs Live agenda, and each show only gets better.
