The logistics of work and a good life Store Logistics Supervisor Lara Harrington has been involved with Snowy 2.0 from the beginning. She recommends people with all skill sets apply, because there are a variety of roles available on this megaproject. “I transferred here from a Salini project in Western Australia. Originally, I was a Warehouse Administrator, and I helped out where I could as an all-rounder,” Lara Said. “There are opportunities for advancement on Snowy 2.0, and overcoming challenges is part of what’s rewarding here.” The legacy of #Snowy2 also motivates Lara. On her most challenging days she sits back, takes it all in, and thinks: ‘Wow, look what I’m a part of.’ Lara works on a 14/7 roster. During her swing she lives in a #FGJV house in the Snowy Mountains town of Cooma, NSW. She’s a country girl so the setting suits her, but Lara also loves her R&R week at home in Western Australia -- in the cooler months Lara calls it her 'chance to defrost’. Answering the renewable energy call with excellence Technical and Excellence Director Giuseppe Mazzucco focuses keenly on every detail of the Snowy 2.0 project. On top of that responsibility, he also keeps sight of the project’s global impact. “The changing climate is a call of duty to the world, and Australia’s answer is #Snowy2. We are setting an example with our commitment to renewable energy and a sustainable future,” Giuseppe said. “As a project team, we strive for excellence. When you strive for excellence, you naturally care about the #quality of your work. You take ownership of your responsibilities and have the courage to tackle challenges together.” Giuseppe is immensely proud of the technical achievements of Snowy 2.0. He often reflects on how our work builds on historic transformation, but with modern complexities including multiple tunnel boring machines, a world-first inclined pressure shaft, and six reversable turbines in an underground power station. With a 5-2 roster working from Future Gen’s corporate headquarters, Giuseppe relocated to Cooma with his family. “Cooma is not just a part of Australia. It embodies the spirit of the original Snowy Scheme with its 75 years of international history. Cooma is the heart of clean energy for our country, driving a better future for all of us,” Giuseppe said. Surveying his work from 150 metres above! For more than four years, Mitchell Parkinson has been helping drive progress at #Snowy2. He’s worked on our tunnel portals, roads, and encampments at all three remote sites: Lobs Hole, Tantangara, and Marica. Mitch originally joined the project as a #surveyor, a role he recommends. “The surveying and spatial industry is growing at an exponential pace and there are simply not enough surveyors to keep up,” Mitch said. ?“If you like the flying #drones, using laser scanners, being outdoors, and taking paths less travelled – and if you don't mind the occasional day in the office – surveying could be the right job for you.” Since mid-2023, Mitch has led a team of 200+ people at Marica as Deputy #Construction Manager. Together, they are more than halfway through excavating and lining what will be the deepest operational surge shaft in the world at 250m deep. “Delivering Snowy 2.0 is like climbing a mountain. You need to want to do it, and you need to want to be challenged. If you do, this project will bring you great reward,” Mitch said. “When I started, we drove a narrow dirt track up Ravine Road every day and stayed at local lodges and motels. We now live in new camps with sporting facilities, rec rooms, music centres and walking tracks. It’s a far cry from the early days, but that doesn’t mean we don’t face daily challenges and overcome them together.” Mitch works a 14-7 roster. He takes a charter flight to Brisbane then a train to the Gold Coast. On previous projects, Mitch was away from home from sunup to sundown, five or six days a week. He says the Snowy 2.0 roster gives him more quality time with his wife and their toddler. Taking a scientific approach to caring Since 2022, Environmental Laboratory Advisor Ana Maria Rendon Valencia’s passion for her work has steadily grown. Ana Maria leads a team across the remote work sites of Lobs Hole and Tantangara. Together, they test water and spoil material and monitor other environmental factors on #Snowy2. Ana Maria says she feels like part of a Snowy 2.0 family, united in creating a legacy for future generations. “Protecting the mountains that surround us is a daily part of my work, and this project has taught me the importance of taking care of one another,” Ana Maria said. “I firmly believe that every small contribution makes a difference. Whether it's the essential work of keeping our rooms clean, preparing our meals, or conducting tests in the #laboratory, each role here plays a vital part in building something remarkable.” The 2:1 roster provides Ana Maria with a balance between work and leisure. During her two-week swing, she enjoys live music, trivia nights, and making the most of the gym. For her week of R&R, Ana Maria travels or divides her time between her Brisbane and Sydney. Appreciating a challenging expedition Three years ago, Muhammad Naveed joined Snowy 2.0 as Lead Expeditor. He now manages the Expediting and Logistics Team from Future Gen’s head office in Cooma, NSW. Muhammad thrives on a challenge. His role has evolved from operational work to leading a logistical tracking system overhaul. This has yielded 25 per cent greater efficiency and been personally rewarding. “I’ve enjoyed the challenges of analysing supply chain data, developing contingency plans, and collaborating across departments to address barriers like material shortages and shipping delays,” Muhammad said. “I am deeply committed to my job and enjoy building relationships with our suppliers. I also find fulfilment in supporting my colleagues.” Learning and growing on this iconic #megaproject is an experience Muhammad recommends. He says working on #Snowy2 demands resilience and courage, and our work also helps to strengthen those traits. “I love to face new challenges, step outside my comfort zone, and take actions that benefits the team and project,” Muhammad said. “Every time I overcome an obstacle, it inspires others to do the same.” Muhammad likes his 5-2 roster – especially spending weekends with his family. When he works at a remote site, Muhammad appreciates the gyms, cosy rooms, and cooperative atmosphere.
