We work with local governments & communities to accelerate progress and inspire systemic change.

关于我们

FUSE is dedicated to freeing our country from the social and economic barriers to opportunities that have been perpetuated by a history of systemic and institutionalized racism. We partner with local governments and communities to more effectively address pressing challenges by placing experienced professionals in local government agencies. These FUSE Executive Fellows lead strategic projects that are designed to accelerate progress and advance racial equity. We are also dedicated to sharing the insights that emerge from our work to inspire all civic leaders to think and act differently in their efforts to achieve systemic change. Our work focuses on issues such as affordable housing and homelessness; workforce training and living-wage jobs; pandemic response and health equity; education reform and digital access; public safety and justice reform; climate resilience and green infrastructure; and more. FUSE has worked on over 250 projects in 42 cities and counties across 18 states serving a combined population of 25 million people. The majority of our alumni continue to work in civic leadership and nearly all our government partners return each year with requests for additional projects.

Yesterday, FUSE partner Jackson Redevelopment Authority (JRA) hosted the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy at Union Station in Downtown Jackson. DRA awarded JRA a grant to perform a transit-oriented development study for Union Station, inclusive of sites within a ? mile radius such as the Farish Street Historic District and the Jackson Convention Complex. JRA Board Chairman Alex Lawson and FUSE Executive Fellow Yolanda Owens coordinated the presentation and tour for fellows representing each of the eight DRA states. The presentation included future plans to activate spaces in and around Union Station. #FUSEPartner #FUSExJackson

Chief of Housing & Homelessness for LA City Mayor Karen Bass

Los Angeles continues taking immediate action and making investments to protect unhoused communities, and build greater resiliency with more affordable & climate-friendly housing and sustainable infrastructure. With extreme heat conditions, a full citywide coordination is currently in effect, and hundreds of locations are open for relief from the heat including Rec&Parks facilities and local library branches. For info https://lnkd.in/gv66NSSw and https://lnkd.in/g6MDcFwx or Angelenos can call 3-1-1. https://lnkd.in/gvQjWQ_N And thanks to our federal, state and local partners — Los Angeles is: - Installing cool roofs in public housing with over $500k in funding secured by Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. HACLA - Building more climate-friendly housing while reducing carbon emissions with $103 Mil secured through California Strategic Growth Council. Read press release from Mayor Bass. - Providing seniors free portable room air conditioners, utility bill discounts and heat safety resources thanks to DWP Finally, this week, the Los Angeles Business Council held its sustainability summit and recognized several leaders including LA Deputy Mayor Nancy Sutley, who received the LABC Sustainability Leadership Award for her remarkable career.

As FUSE grows in new and existing cities and counties, so does our alumni network. While FUSE Executive Fellows have their cohort to lean on during their FUSE Fellowships, we highly encourage all of our fellows to lean on our alumni network, even after their fellowship ends. Our 250+ alumni are full of wealth and knowledge! We look forward to seeing more group gatherings in Los Angeles and beyond!

Community and a sense of belonging. A need to feel connected and part of a welcoming group. This has always been important to me, now more than ever after the isolating constriction the pandemic brought that hasn't fully gone away. One way I am creating community is by connecting the change makers who share my common experience building more equitable communities as FUSE Fellow Alumni here in Los Angeles. Local, face to face connection. Time to catch up, create shared experiences and collaborate for the future. Hosting our first gathering, of many to come, was such a joy!

Great news from FUSE Alum Christa Leonard (2022—23)! We are thrilled Leonard continues to use her grant writing skills to support public agencies. During her FUSE Fellowship, Leonard built on the significant investments made through the City of Birmingham’s Healthy Food Initiative and facilitated community-driven hyper-local programs and policies that encourage food resilience across all neighborhoods in Birmingham. #FUSEAlum #FUSEAlumniSuccess

Equity-Centered Grant Writer & Program Design Consultant

In April, I embarked on an exciting solo journey with the launch of Collective Emergence Consulting. Starting with a nearly blank slate, I’ve spent the past five months working closely with municipalities, public agencies, and non-profits, writing grants and supporting impactful projects. Today, I’m thrilled to share some incredible news: Congratulations to HACLA for securing $10.96 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Roads and Streets for All (SS4A) grant! This funding will address critical safety concerns along Wilmington Avenue, a vital North-South corridor in South Los Angeles. Due to outdated infrastructure, frequent traffic collisions and pedestrian hazards have long plagued Wilmington Avenue in Watts. Thanks to this grant, the community will soon benefit from: - High-visibility crosswalks - ADA-compliant curb ramps - Protected bike lanes - Enhanced street lighting - Traffic calming measures This project will bring much-needed improvements to a historically underserved neighborhood, creating safer streets for everyone and helping to reverse decades of underinvestment. #visionzero #transportation #completestreets

Today marks a significant step in our mission to ensure that everyone in Atlanta has a place to call home. With a $60 million commitment, including a $50 million Homeless Opportunity Bond and $10 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, we’re not just building housing; we’re building hope. With 20,000 new affordable housing units on the horizon, including 5,000 already completed and 5,000 more underway, we’re creating real change. A big thank you to all our partners and the @atlcouncil for standing with us as we work towards a future where everyone has a chance to thrive in our city.
