We dove deep into the ever-changing legal currents shaping today’s workplace, from AI and DEI regulations to restrictive covenants and exemption thresholds. Each session was a?whale?of insight, helping HR professionals stay?afloat in a sea of compliance and policy changes. A big?wave to our incredible speakers: Stephen Rotter, Emily Tichenor, William Cusack, and Steven Eheart for delivering?shell-raising?content. Last Night’s CiviCO Event Takeaway: This "Purpose Hour" was titled "Leading in Times of Political Polarization" which was all about disagreeing better for a stronger future. Dr. Katy Anthes led a forward-thinking session about tackling polarization and fostering collaboration. One powerful note, from the many I took away, is ...?Conflict itself isn’t the problem. It’s how we engage with conflict that causes issues. "87% of Americans are frustrated with extreme political and cultural divisions?(per?Starts with Us)." The solution? = Creating space for?productive?conflict rather than destructive “us vs. them” battles. A simple but effective strategy is to spend time with ALL involved in a situation (including those who you know have very different political views than you) without discussing politics or policies. Talking about everyday topics like gardening or the weather can dramatically reduce tensions, humanize one another and build trust. Progress happens when we focus on shared values and/or experiences, not just our differences. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an impactful leader! Katy Anthes, Ph.D., is the former Commissioner at the Colorado Department of Education, and currently serves as the Director of the @FORWARD Initiative at the PEBC- Public Education & Business Coalition. Dr. Anthes recently received the Public and Community Service Medal at CiviCO's 2024 Colorado Governors Citizenship Medals celebration, which seems VERY well deserved in my opinion. Katy also had in attendance the well-respected leader, Floyd Cobb, Ph.D..
