Congratulations to our friends at abc7NY who launched their brand new flagship news studios this weekend! ? ?? ?? (Swipe to the end to see the rendering-to-reality!) We designed these versatile studios (a main and multi-function space plus two flash studios) as part of ABC/Disney's broader move to their new headquarters at 7 Hudson Square, a multi-year effort that unites their production teams under one state-of-the-art roof. Our design features a panoramic LED skyline, an LED volume for virtual production, and a home base for weather with multiple interactive presentation screens. We designed towards a minimal aesthetic, limiting the material palette and emphasizing clean formal alignments. We also had some fun abstracting the iconic "7" brand mark with custom wallpaper paterns, a super-sized LED graphic treatment at the weather zone, and a dramatic, suspended ceiling sculpture above the main anchor position. Critically acclaimed and popular underground rap duo $UICIDEBOY$ completed their GREYDAY2024 US and Canadian tour with a production design – lighting and set – created by Ian MacDonald, who used ROBE Lighting s.r.o. moving lights to help deliver a raw, in-the-face, lighting aesthetic. Ian is based in Ottawa, Canada, and has worked with the band since 2021, and this latest tour design featured 42 x #iFORTE LTX, 34 x #Spiider and four #iFORTE Follow Spots with #RoboSpot systems, all supplied by Fuse Technical Group. Known for their stark, visceral, often brutal lyrics and fearless narratives touching controversial, complex, and difficult topics like suicide, addiction, and depression, communicating these messages and stories live is hugely challenging and offers massive creative scope. While imagination is at the essence of presenting $UICIDEBOY$ on tour, it is also a fine balance of presenting honesty without compromise. It was the first time Ian used Robe’s super-bright iFORTE luminaire, and he especially likes the colour mixing and the zoom functionality.
