LEO Weekly LLC says Black Future Fest on August 3rd will be the first ever large-scale art festival in the West End. This is a milestone for a part of Louisville that is with rich with history but historically underinvested and disenfranchised. Kudos to my friend, entrepreneur Shauntrice M. for having the vision to do this and pulling it together. ?? The Fest will be at the California Community Center, where you can see the new mural "This is Home" (pictured below) by #JaylinStewart, whose solo installation "God Rest America" was held in my gallery Sheherazade in 2019. Featured artists at the Black Future Fest will include 2022 CPI curator Ada Asenjo, LVA 2024 Honors Emerging Artist Sheila Fox, and photographer Kenyatta Bosman, whose work was among many featured in a large all-Black group show at Louisville's Moreman Gallery last year and has shown at Quappi Projects. In addition to founding the Fest, Shauntrice was in the first cohort of Louisville Visual Art's Curate, Purchase, Inspire (CPI) program in 2022 (right before my 2023 cohort) and was the Speed Art Museum's very first Artist in Residence in 2021. Beauty influencer and advocate Jackie Aina is not just transforming the beauty industry; she’s using her platform to propel Black entrepreneurship forward. Through a partnership with Crown Royal, Jackie helped direct a $50K donation to Black Girl Ventures, a fund dedicated to providing Black and Brown women founders with the capital necessary to scale their businesses. This move by Jackie underscores a powerful message: influencers can and are playing a crucial role in addressing funding disparities in the business world. The lesson: We all have an opportunity to leverage our influence to make an impact. We must be bold enough to ask. #FundBlackFounders #FBF #Impact #JackieAina #CrownRoyal #Funding
