One of the best examples of the Fund's ongoing work in Job Hubs is the Opportunity Corridor and its surrounding communities. Late last year, the Fund was awarded an Economic Development Administration Recompete Grant to leverage investments in this vital area. In partnership with the Site Readiness for Good Jobs Fund, the grant focuses on repurposing vacant or underused industrial land to create thousands of jobs for residents. A key property in this initiative is the former factory at 7000 Central Ave, which has been vacant since 1993. This site is also central to the EPA Community Change Grant application led by the Fund in August 2024. On Thursday, we welcomed leaders, including White House advisor and former Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, to the site. The event showcased Cleveland's innovative approach to economic development by integrating key elements such as workforce development, transportation, and community engagement. The collaborative effort strongly focuses on green initiatives, emphasizing sustainable practices that will benefit both the economy and the environment. Together, these efforts are designed to pave the way for a new generation of development in our city, ensuring that it meets the needs of all residents.

Our child care system isn’t working for families and we’re all paying the price. This week, workforce and child care advocates released a pivotal report that underscores a critical reality: the current child care system in Northeast Ohio is failing families, businesses, and our economy at large. The findings are stark and undeniable. High costs and limited accessibility of child care services directly translate into substantial economic losses for our community. Notably, inadequate child care is a significant barrier preventing more than 20,000 parents in Cuyahoga County from participating in the workforce, and forcing many more to work fewer hours, forgo career advancement opportunities, and struggle with productivity at work. In total, our local economy misses out on $646 Million dollars every year as the result of inadequate child care.?Explore the entire report now at earlymattersneo.org. #emneo
