The Fund for Global Health is alarmed by the recent executive order issued by President Trump, which halted critical humanitarian aid delivered by the U.S. Agency for International Development and the State Department. A continued shutdown of U.S. global health programs puts millions of vulnerable lives at risk. The Fund for Global Health urges you to write to or call your two Senators and your Representative. Ask that they work to have the Secretary of State’s waiver to the foreign aid stop work order fully implemented to allow lifesaving care to be delivered in all global health programs.
关于我们
Fund for Global Health is a non-partisan aid and advocacy organization, supporting frontline health workers in Africa and advocating with members of the U.S. Congressional subcommittees that fund foreign aid. In our aid work and our advocacy we focus on expanding the delivery of integrated primary care services by frontline health workers. We work on ways to provide the maximum health benefit per dollar spent, especially for the most vulnerable people. Our advocacy work includes a grassroots network of medical professionals, NGO leaders, academic experts and others with global health experience, supported by the research, outreach and lobbying activities of our Advocacy Fellows. Our advocacy is focused primarily on the members of the House and Senate State and Foreign Operations subcommittees of Appropriations.

Continuing the Get to Know our Fellow's series! ?? We asked fellows a few questions to get a better understanding of their life experience - how their fellowship has made them look at the world and their own communities differently. We'll be sharing their responses over the next few weeks. If you're interesting in becoming a fellow or learning more about the Fund for Global Health, visit our website. Meet fellow Vivien Wambugu Provide a brief description of yourself. (EX: what you're studying, your career, future career plans, fellowship responsibilities). I am currently working as a Postgraduate Associate at the Yale School of Medicine. Describe one significant thing you’ve learned throughout your fellowship. As an advocate and having the opportunity to participate in the background work necessary to influence foreign aid operations, I am certainly learning a lot. One significant thing I am learning is the importance of civilian advocacy in ensuring and empowering the "right" individuals to sit at the table in order to achieve change that significantly benefits and elevates those we strive to serve and uplift. Civil society and civilian voices remain the backbone and should/must continue to be empowered. Reflecting on your experience as a fellow, describe how your perspective on international primary healthcare has changed. How has your personal experience with the US primary healthcare system shaped your perspective? Although I did my master's in Global Health, and many of my passions and efforts fall into this field, I am constantly learning ways to advance health equity for all, especially those who are underserved and disempowered. When thinking about the benefits of PEPFAR services being integrated into primary healthcare settings, my understanding of the importance of holistic primary care in international and US healthcare systems is heightened. My personal experience with the US healthcare system is that it seems to be becoming more and more specialized and siloed rather than working to achieve quality comprehensive care. I think we, those who participate, lead, or influence the US healthcare system, can learn a lot from international settings and initiatives like the PEPFAR primary care integration goal, where primary care works to address all aspects of health, including prevention, promotion, and education, work in a collaborative and integrative manner. #healthcare #globalhealth #advocacy

Get to know our fellows! ?? We asked fellows a few questions to get a better understanding of their life experience - how their fellowship has made them look at the world and their own communities differently. We'll be sharing their responses over the next few weeks. If you're interesting in becoming a fellow or learning more about the Fund for Global Health, visit our website. Meet Fatima Din ? Provide a brief description of yourself. I'm a rising senior studying biomedical sciences at the University of Central Florida. I am on the pre-medical track and plan on applying to medical school next year. As an advocacy fellow on the Florida team, I work primarily with Senator Rubio's office. With the help of the other fellows, I attend meetings and maintain relationships with congressional staffers, write letters to the editors, and organize meetings with local global health leaders to advocate for our organization's asks. Describe a time you felt like you succeeded as a fellow/felt proud of your work as a fellow. Has your experience as a fellow made you examine your community's healthcare access in a different light? When my letter to the editor regarding tuberculosis funding was published in the Orlando Sentinel earlier this year, I felt very proud of myself and the fact that my voice could be heard as an advocate. My experience as a fellow has definitely made me examine my community's healthcare access in a different light, as many of the issues seen in global health funding and management is reflected in domestic healthcare as well. Describe one significant thing you’ve learned throughout your fellowship. The most significant thing I've learned throughout my fellowship is the solidification of the understanding that our representatives must be held accountable. Our politicians serve us, not the other way around, and by working with the Fund, I am able to help influence the decisions of our leaders and advocate for transparency in how American tax dollars are used. Reflecting on your experience as a fellow, describe how your perspective on international primary healthcare has changed. How has your personal experience with the US primary healthcare system shaped your perspective?? Ever since joining the Fund, I've been able to see how intertwined international and domestic primary healthcare are, and how our global aid needs to prioritize the direct provision of care. My personal experience witnessing the US primary healthcare system has also shaped my perspective, as I've seen how many people don't seek treatment or even have a primary care physician due to unaffordable costs. Everyone should have equal access to healthcare, no matter which country they live in.
