This year, we’re expanding our reach, making it easier than ever for Valley residents to join us in spreading holiday cheer. On December 17, all collected items will be delivered to Phoenix Children’s Toyland, where families of hospitalized children can select gifts free of charge, creating special moments during a challenging time. As we reflect upon the somber anniversary of 9/11, now Patriot’s Day, it reminds me to be grateful for the incredible luck of being born a U.S. citizen. Every day is an opportunity- not just to succeed- but to appreciate the freedom we have. The country affords us with the freedom to express ourselves, to practice the religion of our choice, to assemble peacefully, to speak out, and to think freely.? As most of us remember that fateful morning in 2001, where we were and what we were doing when the first plane struck the building, we mourned for the 3,000 souls we lost. These individuals were going about their day at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, or flying aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on a sunny September morning. We all need to keep this harrowing memory alive. Share your personal reflections with those too young to remember what happened and what it means to come together, the sacrifices made, and the lives lost. I truly believe we must reaffirm our commitment to patriotism and to what makes our country truly great, its people. It is ironic that this poignant memory is the last time we came together as a people and as a country. This is an occasion to reflect on the resilience and unity of the American people. When times were at their worst, we were at our best. In November, we will express our opinion at the ballot box when we choose the direction of our country for the next four years.? The greatest freedom we possess, in my opinion, and one that we can never take for granted. -Doug Fulton
