Some highlights from the Multicultural Pongal Sangamam event in Pittsburgh last month by FIIG in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Chapter, Center for Global Health Ethics, School of Liberal Arts at Duquesne University, Center for International Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholar Development at Carnegie Mellon University, Kelir Books’ We Are Tamil Too, Tamarind Restaurant, Salin Simsek Photography & Nick Shmidt. It was a multicultural celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity, centered around Pongal, the Tamil Harvest Festival. Activities included a student panel discussing Multicultural Tamilar in Multicultural America, Kolam Art, Kuthu dance, and traditional Tamil food. There was a live painting as well done by the artist, Selva Priya Sahadevan, which will be up for auction soon, so please keep an eye out for the official announcement!
