Microgrid Knowledge sat down with FuelCell Energy’s Chief Commercial Officer Mark Feasel to discuss how our fuel cell-powered microgrid will supply low-emission energy to AI data centers. Through this collaboration with Diversified Energy Company and TESIAC, methane will be extracted from coal mines and transported through a pipeline to data centers, generating power through the electrochemical conversion of methane to hydrogen, and then to electricity. Because this process is virtually free of air pollution emissions, the fuel cell-based microgrids can be brought online more quickly than combustion-based systems that may involve air permitting delays. Heat cogenerated by the fuel cells can be converted to chilling, which would increase system efficiency. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eKtgZXrp?

Our team is thrilled to see their work come to life with Idaho National Laboratory spotlighting our solid oxide electrolyzer, which can unlock affordable, reliable hydrogen production—cutting costs by up to 30%--when working with nuclear power. Proud to drive innovation in clean hydrogen energy.
In 2020, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded $12.5 million to FuelCell Energy and INL to support a project integrating hydrogen production and nuclear power. FuelCell Energy designed and manufactured a new, ready-to-go modular solid oxide electrolysis system, and recently delivered it to INL's Energy Systems Laboratory for testing and validation. This is the largest solid oxide electrolyzer ever tested at INL and the first fully integrated electrolysis platform demonstrated at INL. ?? The testing phase is expected to last for about one year, including a variety of tests to measure how efficiently the electrolysis system can split steam into hydrogen. FuelCell Energy is pleased to share some significant milestones in our sustainability journey. In 2024, we performed our fifth annual greenhouse gas emissions assessment, providing valuable insights into our environmental impact. We also completed a product-level Life Cycle Assessment to better understand and reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout our value chain. Additionally, we conducted a climate-scenario analysis in accordance with the FSB Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). This has been instrumental in guiding our strategic planning and allows for more informed decisions on where and when to allocate capital. Moreover, we successfully integrated a sustainability governance model into our business processes, ensuring that sustainability is at the core of our operations. We were proud to achieve the ISS ESG Prime status and to improve our MSCI Carbon Markets and Morningstar Sustainalytics ratings, reflecting our commitment to environmental, social, and governance excellence. These accomplishments are a testament to our dedication to driving sustainable growth. Let's continue to make a positive impact together!
