    Proud FSW Online Moment! A decade ago, I read a book that tasked me with creating a personal dharma code. After working through the process, I landed on three guiding words: engage, empower, inspire. These words have surfaced throughout my career, but never more clearly than when I watched Angelys Torres Cancel present her research to an audience of Florida SouthWestern State College students, staff, and faculty this week. Inspired by Groove, one of my goals is to create online spaces where students can connect and support each other. I've experimented with multiple platforms, but nothing quite resonated—because I wasn’t thinking like a student. Angelys, a member of the FSW Online team, saw what was missing. After extensive research, she asked if she could create a Discord server for FSW students. Less than a year after its launch, it's grown to over 200 members with daily active discussions. For her Honors Capstone project, Angelys analyzed the impact of the server. She found that 57% of surveyed students use it daily, with the most valuable channels being General Chat, School, and Resources. Most importantly, 71% reported feeling an increased sense of social connection. One student captured its impact perfectly: "I also have very bad social anxiety. This makes it difficult for me to talk to anyone when I'm on campus, so I usually just sit back and watch everyone else chat. The Discord server lets me use my voice without the pressure of having to initiate a conversation with a stranger." Watching Angelys present was one of those moments when the teacher became the student. In that hour, I realized I was the one who felt engaged, empowered, and inspired. Congratulations, Angelys, on this well-earned success, and thank you for making our department shine.
