We envision a world where healing-centered workplaces are the norm, revolutionizing how organizations operate. Instead of being trauma-inducing like the world around them, these organizations create safe spaces and support staff working in trauma-organized environments, enabling them to thrive while offering effective and high-quality services to people often facing the worst circumstances.

Thrilled to witness the growing momentum in #healingcenteredpeacebuilding research! ?? It's inspiring to see colleagues and organizations pushing the boundaries of traditional peacebuilding approaches by integrating trauma-responsive practices and healing-centered engagement. This evolving field has the potential to transform how we address conflict and build sustainable development and peace at individual, community, national and global levels. Some key developments I'm particularly excited about: 1. Integration of cultural and indigenous healing practices 2. Focus on collective trauma and community resilience 3. Emphasis on empowerment and local leadership in peacebuilding efforts - how people own their own healing agendas What recent research or initiatives in healing-centered peacebuilding have caught your attention? Please share insights and continue to grow this important field of study! #peacebuilding #traumainformed #traumaresponsive #healingcentered #communityhealing #research with Green String Network and FSU Resilience Institute

Great news! Angi Yoder-Maina, Ph.D.'s book, "Healing Is What Makes Peace Work," is being translated into Ukrainian. This translation will complement practical sessions to broaden the audience, accompanied by an adapted trauma awareness and mental health course tailored specifically for Ukraine. The goal is to help build resilience and provide healing tools in the aftermath of conflict. Thank you, Anna Romanova, for your support with this project.

The experience of the United States in mental health rehabilitation for trauma-affected communities is incredibly valuable for Ukraine. We aim to implement the most modern and successful American practices into the mental health rehabilitation system for Ukrainian veterans and other vulnerable groups of populations affected by the war. As part of #MTEC_Rebuild_2024, Angi Yoder-Maina, Ph.D. Yoder-Maina, the Director of the FSU Resilience Institute for Strength and Empowerment (RISE) at Florida State University, author, community-based mental health work expert, peacemaker, and civil activist, will share her experiences working with individuals impacted by armed conflicts. Dr. Yoder-Maina is currently developing an adapted course on trauma awareness and mental healing specifically for Ukrainians. Her book, "Healing Is What Makes Peace Work," will serve as a vital complement to practical sessions and help broaden the audience of Ukrainians who can benefit from her innovative methods of mental healing from trauma. We look forward to the insights and contributions from Dr. Yoder-Maina that will aid in the healing process for many in our society. RISE is working with The Bigbie Method on a summer cohort focus of Nonviolent Communication (NVC)- We are in week 6 and has been a great journey of communication and connection. #NVC #communication #connection #mentalhealth #resilience
?? Healing Trauma with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) ?? Trauma can disrupt our ability to communicate and connect, leading to isolation and disconnection. NVC offers a compassionate framework to help survivors rebuild trust, express their needs, and foster healing connections. Here's how NVC can support trauma recovery: Understanding Trauma and Communication: Trauma affects the brain's stress responses, causing heightened emotions and communication difficulties. NVC promotes safe, empathetic communication, essential for trauma recovery. By focusing on empathy, honesty, and connection, NVC helps navigate emotions and interactions with compassion. Practical Applications of NVC in Trauma Recovery: Self-Empathy ??: Connect with your own feelings and needs to foster self-compassion and emotional regulation. Example: "I'm feeling overwhelmed. I need peace and safety. I'll take a few moments to breathe and ground myself." Empathetic Listening ??: Listen without judgment to build trust and understanding. Example: "I hear you're feeling hurt and lonely. I'm here to listen and support you." Creating Safe Spaces ???: Establish safe, supportive environments for healing. Example: "Let's set boundaries for our conversation to ensure safety and respect." Rebuilding Trust ??: Encourage honest, compassionate communication to strengthen relationships. Example: "I value our relationship and want to ensure we both feel safe and heard." Using NVC in trauma recovery enhances healing by fostering empathy, self-awareness, and respectful communication. It helps survivors reconnect with their emotions and needs, rebuild trust, and form meaningful connections. Whether you're a survivor or support person, incorporating NVC can create a compassionate, healing environment for recovery and resilience. Angi Yoder-Maina, Ph.D. is working with Anna Romanova on a healing-centered approach to individual and collective trauma for conflict-ridden communities. More to come soon... #RISEfsu #resilience #healing #mentalhealth #traumaawareness

My colleague Angi Yoder-Maina, Ph.D. develops HEALING–CENTERED PEACEBUILDING PRACTICE that can be very useful for Ukrainian traumatized society: “…HCP offers a holistic alternative, prioritizing healing as a pathway to building peace. This approach emphasizes the importance of addressing underlying wounds and anxieties stemming from violence and conflict. HCP seeks to decolonize mental health by building systems focused on justice, healing, and human potential. This approach prioritizes community–based healing practices that are culturally grounded, drawing on Indigenous knowledge and resources to create safe spaces for healing and growth in conflict–ridden communities…”
