Last summer, Mesa resident Kathy was hit with soaring energy costs. On her limited social security income, she had to figure out how to manage her new $340 energy bill. Thankfully, Kathy was able to utilize our weatherization assistance program to replace her old ac and reduce these costs. This support has made a world of a difference for people like Kathy, especially navigating Arizona's extreme weather. Learn more about how weatherization is helping Arizonans live with more comfort and security in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gdsRfrfv #Weatherization #CommunitySupport #EnergyEfficiency #FSL #AffordableLiving

?? Celebrating 50 years of helping Arizonans age with confidence.??
关于我们
FSL, also known as Foundation for Senior Living, has been caring for Arizonans since 1974. OUR WHY By 2030, there will be more Americans over the age of 65 than under the age of 18. And at FSL, we know that 89% of people over the age of 65 in the US do not want to go into assisted living. So, we do everything in our power to make that happen. OUR MISSION is to provide home and community-based services and develop energy-efficient, affordable housing to promote health, independence and dignity for all. We do this through a variety of programs and services focused on four areas of essential need: A SAFE HOME We develop and manage single- and multi-family homes, housing complexes, and residential behavioral health group homes in Arizona that offer affordable rents and mortgages. We also train and monitor sponsors of the Adult Foster Care and Adult Behavioral Health Therapeutic Home programs. These programs provide a safe home for 1,086 Arizonans each night. NUTRITIOUS MEALS We provide over 507,000 pounds of food to families in need from our two food pantries in the rural Arizona towns of Wickenburg and Peoria. Additionally, we serve nearly 208,000 congregate and home-delivered meals in the Phoenix metro area each year. On average, we feed 1,536 Arizonans each day. HEALTH & WELLNESS We offer services to empower community-based living, increase independence and enhance and maintain the highest functional quality of life for Arizonans of all ages. These include adult day health services, Medicare-certified home health and non-medical home care services. Last year, we provided 186.334 hours of respite for caregivers. EDUCATION We educate clients, family and professional caregivers, and members of the community in an effort to empower them to maintain and enhance independence for themselves, their loved ones, and their clients.

We’re thrilled to showcase another four honorees from our "50 Over 50" list! This week, we celebrate four exceptional individuals whose dedication, passion, and service have left a lasting mark on their communities: ? Joe Anderson Anderson co-founded Benovia Winery after purchasing the Cohn Vineyard in Sonoma. Before his winemaking career, Anderson worked for the Arizona state government for 17 years and rebuilt Arizona’s low-income health plan, now known as AHCCCS. He co-founded Schaller Anderson, a successful health care consultancy that was later sold to Aetna. ? Jennifer Dangremond Dangremond began her nonprofit career in 1999 as a grant writer for CASS, later becoming Development Director. At Native American Connections, she enhanced shelter services for homeless youth and led the Oral Health Initiative. Now, as Director of Community Development at the Arizona Housing Coalition, she advocates for affordable housing and serves on multiple boards. ? Guy Mikkelsen, MSW Mikkelsen was CEO of FSL from 1985 to 2014, after directing the State Block Grants Administration at the Arizona Department of Economic Security. He serves on the boards of CASS, Catholic Social Services of Central and Northern Arizona, the Arizona State Commission on Housing, and the City of Phoenix Human Services Commission. ? Gerald Wissink, MBA Wissink is a founding board member and CEO of BHHS Legacy Foundation, and the CEO of Legacy Connection. Before becoming CEO of the Foundation, he was president and CEO of Baptist Hospitals and Health Systems, an Arizona-based nonprofit system of hospitals and nursing homes. "The only way I'm leaving here is feet first." — Ray Like many retirees, Ray found it challenging to find housing with an affordable rent and strong community. But the Cottonwood man also has diminished lung capacity and uses a mobility scooter, further limiting his options. Ray became one of the first people to live at Highland Square. An Army veteran and retired police chief, Ray loves serving others. For example, Ray delivered holiday packages to neighbors after USPS stopped door-to-door service during the pandemic. Thanks to you, Ray is thriving in community. ?? Stories like Ray’s are why we do what we do. When her air conditioner began to fail, Sharon thought about leaving her longtime home in Phoenix. She couldn’t afford the $20,000 estimate it cost to replace the unit. But Sharon also knew delaying the repair could be deadly. Your support made it possible for FSL to send in our weatherization team. They not only replaced Sharon’s A/C, but they also sealed floor vents and installed a new furnace and water heater. Now Sharon’s home stays cool and her utility bills are a fraction of the cost. ?? Kathleen was 21 when she had a brain aneurysm burst. Against all odds, the college student and athlete survived. But she would need daily care for a traumatic brain injury for the rest of her life. Her working mom knew Kathleen wouldn’t thrive with an in-home caregiver or in a program that catered only to aging adults. With your help, the family found the right fit in our adult day health program. That’s helped Kathleen to live a meaningful life for over 20 years.
