Last week, FSG was privileged to host the 2nd?Health Equity Purpose Studio, an extraordinary gathering of health equity leaders from global healthcare companies. ?? ????At a moment when health equity feels more urgent than ever, these corporate changemakers are addressing deep-rooted health barriers from within their organizations. When the road ahead feels incredibly complex, the best path forward is together. The biggest breakthroughs often happen when leaders step out of their organizational silos and into community. ???Through candid dialogue, we explored how similar patterns of "interference"—from power dynamics to mental models to resource flows—limit health equity impact across markets, and together identified the enabling conditions needed to drive transformative change. ???More importantly, we witnessed the power of community. Leaders shared openly, supported each other, and found common ground in their commitment to transformation. To the courageous, smart, and fun leaders who joined us: Thank you for showing what's possible when we break down organizational walls and bring our whole selves to this work. Your personal leadership and determination inspire us all. Together, we can transform how business drives health equity forward. #HealthEquity #Leadership #SocialImpact

Talent Rewire’s latest case study profiles Joby Aviation’s apprenticeship program to train local workers. ?? Joby Aviation was scaling up its production capacity and needed an advanced manufacturing workforce, which didn’t exist locally at scale. Instead of importing talent, which could have exacerbated income inequality and housing challenges in the region, they partnered with DART, The James Irvine Foundation, and local community-based organizations to develop an in-house apprenticeship program and train local workers in this sector. This apprenticeship program not only made quality jobs accessible to local workers, it also: ???? Inspired practice shifts at Joby to encourage inclusion for all workers ?? Helped community organizers live into their crucial role in economic development ?? Led to policy changes like SB800 to support the advanced air mobility sector This case study, written by Associate Director Talia Alongi, speaks to the power of cross-sector collaboration when folks are willing to listen and to work differently together in service of a shared goal. Strategic Communications for Social Impact

Thanks to The Conference Board for hosting the 2024 ESG Summit last week! ? It was special to attend a gathering of corporate social impact leaders just a week after the U.S. election. While many were still processing the impacts, here were a few takeaways that I left with: ? ??There is a big opportunity for companies to lead during this time of uncertainty and need. For example, foreign aid and humanitarian response will undeniably change under the next administration, meaning a HUGE gap in services and funding for nonprofits. Companies (and foundations) can help fill this void. ? ?? Companies will need to future-proof CSR, ESG, and DEI programs by getting clearer on their goals and aligning these initiatives with their core values and business strategy. ?? Surprisingly, “trust” was the word that came up in every session. Trust is key to collaboration and partnerships, and companies will need to rethink how they rebuild trust with different communities post-election. ? A very special highlight was also getting to hang out with my FSG colleague Elizabeth Tanefis in person! ??

Love reading this recap of the "Power of Place" conference by FSG Director Ryan De Souza ??

    查看Ryan De Souza的档案,图片

Social Impact Leader | Director @ FSG

Place Matters. Place is Powerful. Those words echoed in my mind as I sat among leaders committed to advancing comprehensive place-based services for youth and young adults. “The Power of Place” conference hosted by William Julius Wilson Institute at Harlem Children’s Zone combined best and promising strategies in the cradle-to-career field with inspirational and insightful discussion from federal, state, and local leaders. Despite major changes in leadership in the executive and legislative branches of the federal government, I was reminded that a significant share of services that young people and their families interact with on a daily basis are decided at the state and local levels—where they live, not some place far away. And regardless of how federal policy may play out over the coming years, Maryland’s 63rd governor and the state’s first Black governor Gov. Wes Moore reminded us that “the hope we have for the people we fight for does not change with election cycles.” #Place is where change happens. And public, private, and community leaders working in partnership are well positioned to effect that change. Who do you fight for?

Love seeing these photos of the FSG team at Northern California Grantmakers' Corporate Philanthropy Institute! ??

    Social Impact Leader & Strategist, @FSG, ex-BCG, MBA/MPH

CSR professionals today face numerous challenges, including pushback on DEI, having to do more with less, and navigating growing uncertainty. Last week I attended Northern California Grantmakers's Corporate Philanthropy Institute where I met inspirational leaders, reconnected with former colleagues, and led a workshop on diagnosing and overcoming organizational interference in CSR strategies with Lakshmi Iyer and Megan Linquiti. Throughout the day, actions to overcome these interferences to impact emerged, including: ? ?? Listen to understand the "why" of executives, partners, and stakeholders. ?? Change minds through data sharing, storytelling, and putting business leaders in proximity to impact ?? Take the time to build strong relationships and advocates internally and externally ?? Help to mitigate risks and name new unintentional risks from not staying the course on equity through rigorous precision in language ?? Leverage the uniquely innovative and collaborative role CSR teams hold with business partners to build value for and alignment with the business - and ensure impact remains central. Thank you to the NCG team Steve Barton, Nicole Giles for making space for these important conversations with inspiring speakers and reconnecting with friends Elizabeth Hawkins, Mahlet Getachew, Kimberly Shin, Admas Kanyagia.
