A KRBTGT account is a default account within Microsoft Active Directory. This account is used to validate Kerberos ticket requests. Recently, we've seen an influx in Golden Ticket attacks—which allow attackers to create seemingly legitimate authentication tickets—meaning other systems in the domain trust it. Because these service account passwords do not reset automatically, changing them in response to malicious activity is a critical addition to your maintenance schedule.
