Kevin Walsh, PhD, PE, SE; Juan Diego Pozo, PhD, PE and David Pirchio, PhD, PE recently co-presented the webinar, "Design of Pultruded Structures: Why, What, How?!" in collaboration with the University of Miami's Francisco De Caso, PhD and Ehsan Harati, MS, PhD student, NSF Scholar and our current Frost graduate studies intern. The presentation, co-sponsored by NEx and the American Concrete Institute (ACI), equipped participants with essential knowledge, tools, and resources to understand the “why, what, and how” of designing with FRP pultruded elements according to ASCE/SEI 74. The presenters covered fundamental design principles of pultruded composite elements, highlighting key similarities and differences between designing with FRP and steel. They also shared real-world examples from the Frost project portfolio, including some of our current FRP projects in New Jersey, Florida, and Arizona. #FRP #composites #builtenvironment #structuralengineering #FrostEngineering

Dr. Walsh highlighted his work in both practice and research, emphasizing the broad applicability of structural engineering skills in emerging fields like infrastructure asset management. Last week, our team attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cherry Creek development in Goshen, Indiana. Frost is the structural engineer of record for this large-scale mixed-use residential project which includes over 1200 housing units and approximately 148,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. Earlier this week, our engineers gathered with the Cherry Creek project team at the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. Frost is the structural engineer of record for the large-scale mixed-use development in Goshen, Indiana, which officially broke ground this week. The entire project, which includes over 1,200 housing units and 148,674 square feet of retail space, is planned to be completed in phases over a multi-year timeline with the first residents expected to move in by the end of 2025. #structuralengineer #mixeduseresidential #development
