?? Virginia is taking a great step toward expanding access to legal help! A new proposal from the Virginia State Bar would allow court clerks and librarians to offer limited legal assistance—an important move toward making legal help more accessible. Frontline Justice submitted a public comment encouraging the state to take this one step further and consider trained community justice workers—social workers, faith leaders, and shelter volunteers—who are already trusted helpers in their communities. With the right training and support, they can play a key role in closing the justice gap. ?? Read our public comment: https://loom.ly/PyFzoCw ?? 关于我们
Frontline Justice is an initiative of the Office of American Possibilities Fund and a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc. We are dedicated to addressing America's civil access to justice crisis by empowering a new category of legal helpers: Community Justice Workers. With over 120 million unresolved civil legal issues each year and 92% of low-income individuals unable to access the legal assistance they need, scalable solutions are urgently required. Community Justice Workers are ordinary people equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ability to support others in navigating their civil legal challenges. They are recruited from trusted roles such as social workers, health aides, librarians, counselors, teachers, faith leaders, and community leaders. These individuals are cross-trained to help their community members resolve life-altering civil legal needs. By democratizing access to legal help and expanding who can provide it, Frontline Justice aims to shift policy, build justice worker capacity, and grow a national movement. Our vision is to ensure that, by 2035, universal access to timely, on-demand legal assistance from a trusted Community Justice Worker becomes a reality across the U.S.

Thank you to Linda Odermott, RP?, OCP for inviting Frontline Justice CEO, Nikole Nelson, to talk about Alaska Legal Services Corporation's Community Justice Workers Project on Episode 145 of Paralegal Boot Camp's podcast! Listen here. https://lnkd.in/ed27Vqw8
Have you ever wondered what happens when simple (but effective) legal innovation meets one of the most remote places in the United States? ? ?? Hint: Something incredible emerges for the local community! That’s exactly what happened in Alaska, where Nikole Nelson launched the Community Justice Workers Project—an initiative changing how people across rural communities access essential legal help. Here are a few quick facts that might surprise you: 1. Alaska is the most rural state in the U.S., with 90% of its communities off the road system. 2. It’s home to 229 Alaska Native Tribes. 3. It’s also home to a growing group of Community Justice Workers—made possible by the hard work and vision of Nikole and her team. During Linda Odermott, RP?, OCP's recent podcast interview, Nikole shared how she took inspiration from the medical community—where local residents were upskilled to provide vital health services in remote areas. That spark led her to think, “Why not do something similar for legal services in these remote areas?” Nikole’s philosophy is simple, yet game-changing: “You don’t have to start with the most complicated problem. There are plenty of simple legal issues that people just need help with.” If you’re curious about: ? How these Community Justice Workers are trained ? What they do to serve their neighbors ? Why it’s such a crucial model in rural areas that other states could follow …then you’ll love this episode! Click below for the full conversation and learn how Alaskans are bridging the justice gap in a geographically challenging region. You might just discover the spark that motivates you to tackle “simple legal issues” in your own community! ??? https://lnkd.in/gTscdYAy

In 2025, over 20 states are considering reforms that would allow trained Community Justice Workers to provide basic legal help—offering a scalable, community-driven solution to America’s justice crisis. @FrontlineJustice and @Ascendium’s Education Philanthropy have released a blueprint for action, detailing how we can expand affordable, effective legal support to the millions of people who need it most: ? Empowering trained community advocates to assist with common legal issues ? Expanding legal assistance beyond lawyers to meet growing demand ? Building a sustainable model that brings justice within reach for all We know that 92% of low-income households lack access to legal help—this movement is about changing that reality. ??
