IntraHealth’s work in West Africa supports two programs funded by the Gates Foundation. The Challenge Initiative(#TCI) ?(https://loom.ly/1FWjCJE) and?INSPiRE (https://loom.ly/WUY4tQs) are working together to advance integration of maternal, newborn, and child health, family planning, and nutrition services to improve people’s lives in the region. ? City mayors made political and financial commitments, with dedicated budget lines, to integrated services. ? 151 health facilities in four target cities implemented family planning high-impact practices and the INSPiRE Integration Model. ? Nurses, midwives, and community health workers received training to enhance their capacity to deliver integrated services and facilitate referrals. ? Health facilities in all target cities received medical and technical equipment to provide integrated services, including delivery tables, newborn resuscitation equipment, implant insertion and removal boxes, and more. Honored to have represented USAID at the Africa Health Workforce Investment Forum this week in Windhoek, Namibia. Such a historic milestone for the health workforce agenda in Africa! Inspired by all the country leaders prioritizing health workers. Congrats to all participants and to World Health Organization (WHO) AFRO, The Global Fund, The World Bank , International Labour Organization, Frontline Health Workers Coalition for the official launch of the Africa Health Workforce Investment Charter, which aims to catalyze strategic and aligned investments in the health workforce across the Continent. ???????????? USAID has been a supporter of the Charter since its inception in Accra in November 2022. It aligns with commitments made by USG through the Global Health Workforce Initiative to align investments with country needs and in strategic coordination with Africa partners. In the final days of the 118th Congress, we're calling for action to invest in frontline health workers worldwide. ?? Why it matters: Lives saved: Health workers are the first line of defense against diseases like malaria, HIV, and Ebola. Economic growth: A $1 investment can yield a $10 return. Global security: Strong health systems help prevent pandemics and stabilize nations. ? Congress must: Pass House Resolution 389 to recognize the vital contributions of health workers. Approve key funding in the FY25 Appropriations bill to support recruitment, training, and fair pay for these essential professionals. ??
