Fun fact about Hem-Fir is that it's not a single tree species, but rather a combination of Western Hemlock and various true fir species like Noble Fir, Pacific Silver Fir, and White Fir, essentially meaning "Hem-Fir" is a blended name for trees that grow together and have very similar characteristics, making it a highly versatile wood for construction purposes.

The name Douglas honors Scottish botanist David Douglas, who introduced the tree into cultivation in 1827.?Despite it's?common names, it is not a true?fir?(genus?Abies),?spruce?(genus?Picea), or?pine?(genus?Pinus). It is also not a?hemlock; Thus the genus name?Pseudotsuga?which means "false hemlock". Here's some more fast facts about DF!
