The NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Small Spacecraft Technology State-of-the-art report is updated annually to capture new information on publicly available sources on small spacecraft systems. The report captures the development status of current state-of-the-art SmallSat technologies, along with design considerations for the reader to consider when identifying components for their mission. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment (CAPSTONE) is a technology demonstration designed to go into a near-rectilinear halo orbit (NRHO) around the Moon, ant it was launched on Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket from its Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand on 28 June 2022. The CAPSTONE spacecraft has operate for more than two years in orbit around the Moon and uses the Iris X-band radio for primary communication and navigation with NASA’s Deep Space Network. The Iris deep-space radio was developed by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and features a fault-tolerant LEON3FT processor. There are currently more than ten deep-space spacecraft out there with the Iris transponder and the LEON3FT processor. And soon there will be more! #spacecomputing #leon3ft https://lnkd.in/dMBAmUhn.

McNair was a laser physicist and NASA mission specialist on the STS 51-L Challenger mission, tragically lost in 1986. His dedication to space exploration and scientific advancement continues to ignite passion ? Raye Montague, inspired by a childhood encounter with a submarine, became a pioneering engineer in the US Navy. She made history as the first person to design a naval ship, the USS Oliver Hazard Perry, using computer-aided design tools. ?? Willie Hobbs Moore was a physicist and the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in Physics. Her research in infrared spectroscopy helped shape advancements in the field, and she remains a trailblazer for future generations. ?? Lonnie G. Johnson is a nuclear engineer and inventor known for creating the Super Soaker water gun—a beloved invention that earned millions in sales. Johnson also contributed to stealth technology for the United States Air Force and worked as a senior systems engineer on NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Galileo Project. Today, we honor their brilliance, resilience, and enduring impact on science, technology, and innovation.
