Documentary series featuring the journey to food sovereignty.

关于我们

"From Soil to Soul" is a documentary series exploring the journey to restore food sovereignty. Through listening, experiencing and sharing stories of farmers, people belonging to Indigenous, black and people of color, thought leaders, regenerative agriculture practitioners, and food activists, we rebuild the love, relationship and respect for our land and food. We intend to activate leadership for a systemic transformation. Our vision is a reimagined regenerative global movement for food systems that are locally adaptable.

??? From Soil to Soul premieres in Tokyo! ??? In December, our cofounder Margaret To was at the Fabric office in Tokyo for a special screening of From Soil to Soul's pilot episode, "Food Justice in LA"—a powerful short documentary that explores the journey from food injustice to food sovereignty. This event, hosted in collaboration with Climate Designers Japan Hub, brought together an inspiring group of creatives, sustainability leaders, and food system changemakers. ?? The evening opened with introductions from Tomoko Saigan from Fabric, Toshi Otsuka (Climate Designers Japan Hub), and our very own Margaret To, setting the stage for why stories like these matter—both in Los Angeles and globally. ??? The 15-minute pilot transported us into the lives of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color farmers, food activists, and regenerative practitioners working to reclaim their food systems. The screening was followed by a thought-provoking Q&A, where we explored questions like: ?? How do you hope this documentary will influence the way viewers think about food systems and community? ?? Are there lessons from the stories in "From Soil to Soul" that resonate with Japan’s own food and agricultural systems? As we wrapped up the night with socializing and deeper conversations, it was clear—these are not just stories; they are blueprints for change. From LA to Tokyo, food sovereignty is a global movement, and each of us has a role to play. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in this meaningful dialogue. Let’s keep these conversations going—because food is more than what’s on our plate; it’s about justice, culture, and our collective future. #foodjustice #foodsystems #health #foodsovereignty #climateaction #communitygardens

"Instead of just creating media to inspire people, it's more of an action-based docuseries," said Ankur Shah. "How to activate systemic transformation of food systems" is the goal of the docuseries, said Shah. ?? "We don't want it to be something that only people with power can do. It's something that the everyday person can do to break down the food system barriers." A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to interview Ankur S. , co-founder of From Soil to Soul, a docuseries project and share his insights on CivicSciTV, part of Civic Science Media Lab. We discussed food sovereignty, soil vs. dirt, barriers to sustainable food, localized solutions at scale, and more! The docuseries examines community-led examples of sustainable food systems with BIPOC leaders. The pilot episode sheds light on food justice in Los Angeles. Please check it out ??
