It always fills us up to show up as #CSR partners at corporate events like this one and see colleagues and partners stand side by side in service of neighbors in need. We recently partnered with?Sysco Los Angeles,?God's Waiting Room, and?Assemblymember John Harabedian to host a food distribution event, ensuring our community has access to fresh, nourishing food. At Friends In Deed, we’ve seen our fair share of vintage food donations. Occasionally, a can will roll in that’s 5-7 years past its “best by” date. Once in a while, we even get a relic that’s 10+ years old. But on January 4, 2025, history was made. We received our oldest donation ever: a Swanson Natural Goodness Chicken Broth, proudly stamped with a “Best By: March 1998.” That’s nearly 27 years past its prime—older than some of our volunteers, older than Google, and from a time when “Titanic” was still in movie theaters. While we truly appreciate every donation, we kindly remind our generous supporters that food does have a shelf life. A good rule of thumb? We are constantly in awe of the generosity that extends far beyond our local community.?? Spirit Farm is on a mission to re-teach Navajo families how to grow their own organic food. When Joyce and James Skeet, the incredible owners of the farm, heard about the recent fires in our area, they didn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand. We received five boxes of their organic, farm-made pancake mixes, salves, and soaps—gifts of nourishment and care that will be distributed to low-income families through Friends In Deed’s Food Pantry.
