In 2024, we were asked by the No Pelesitiki Campaign if we could financially support the conversion of a shipping container into a storage facility for their plastic mitigation equipment. Despite delays due to contracting and weather, the project is now well underway! Tu'ankuku Kindergarten Update! The support pillars are poured and the block foundation walls are being laid. Progress was slowed by Cyclone Rae, which passed by Vava'u earlier this week. The construction team ensured that the site was secured beforehand, so no damage to the materials or to the equipment was reported. ????Update on the Tu'anuku Kindergarten! We had some delays due to rainstorms; however, our workers continue to make progress. The rebar reinforcements have been set and the support beams have been poured. Technology is an amazing thing! We just had our first virtual site visit of the the Tu'anuku kindergarten construction site to inspect the footer and columns before the rest of the foundation work can proceed. On the call we had Schools for the Children of the World (SCW) engineers and architects from Honduras, Chicago, and Florida; Friends Of Tonga? Inc. representatives calling in from Washington D.C., and our Tonga team on the ground in the rural village of Tu'anuku in the northern island group of Vava'u. The New Castle News is the hometown paper of the Friends of Tonga president, which is located in western Pennsylvania.
