“Pittsburgh’s rivers and riverfront trails are set to improve as a new plan outlines a 10-year vision, positioning Pittsburgh as a premier destination for outdoor recreation. Friends Of The Riverfront authored The Three Rivers Water Trail Management Plan with support from the PortPitt - Port of Pittsburgh Commission, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC). The plan emphasizes the water trails as community connectors, providing water access points, boat launches and amenities for recreation, connection and education.” To read more about this 10-year vision to improve accessibility, address conditions and maintenance, pursue expansion, and increase promotion of these amazing cultural and recreational assets that border the Great Allegheny Passage, go to:?https://lnkd.in/eZvQNyVE

Our friends over at the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission are asking for input in their Regional Active Transportation Plan! We encourage all of our users to take the survey:?arcg.is/1TSifn2. A public meeting is also being held tomorrow, January 7. Our input in plans like this one is so important to the trail development work that happens here at Friends. Representation in these larger transportation plans help to legitimize and fund our development efforts. Make your voice heard and get involved today!

Last month, I got to take part in something I've been wanting to do almost from the moment I moved to Pittsburgh: volunteering with Friends Of The Riverfront. I counted over 50 other volunteers who joined in to pick up litter, plant trees, and engage with residents on the riverfront trails along the North Shore and South Side. Seeing a cliff face transform from a dump site to a point of beauty again was so rewarding, and I recommend it to anyone wanting to see a difference they can make with their own hands.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) needs your feedback! The 2025 PA State Rail Plan, currently in development, will serve as a guide for the advancement of the Pennsylvania freight and passenger rail system. The plan will replace the?2020 State Rail Plan?and provide updates on rail development activity and information to support further investment in the rail system. This is an opportunity for our trail users to encourage PennDOT to consider Rail with Trail options across the state as well as increasing the means for easy bike travel on rail. At the top of each segment on the survey, there is a general comment button. Leave your comments there!?

It was a great day to partner with Friends Of The Riverfront , Pittsburgh Penguins , and Wesco for our third annual trail care event at the Duck Hollow segment of the Three Rivers Heritage and Water Trails. This year, volunteers installed 150 new trees, cleaned up litter, beautified the trailhead, and more. It’s inspiring to see how our efforts have grown each year since we started in 2021. A huge thank you to everyone who participated! Together, we’re making a lasting impact on this trail for our community. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ewJ_vjDS
