In February, we received a letter terminating over $900,000 of grant funding to support community conservation projects. We have another $1.5 million of federal grants to support agricultural conservation programs currently #frozen. These federal funding freezes are hurting the businesses, farmers, waterman, local governments, schools, Tribes, and non-profits who work every day to improve our communities. These are all fully executed contracts. They need to be honored, and funding restored. Please call your congressional representatives and tell them to unfreeze federal contracts! Our deputy director and tons of partners from across the watershed met in beautiful Orange County, Virginia to discuss landscape scale conservation opportunities for the Rappahannock River Region! A healthy and scenic Rappahannock River depends on conserved and protected landscapes to ensure clean water, thriving habitats, and public access. Our region is blessed with exceptional public lands, incredible conservation organizations, and of course Virginia’s longest free-flowing River! Thank you for all who involved with this effort.
Over the past two days, the Roundtable brought together 28 conservation partners to Orange, VA for a workshop to develop and discuss a “common agenda” for landscape scale conservation in the Rappahannock River Watershed. State and Federal Agencies, Federal and State recognized Tribes, Land Trusts, Non-profits, and more! It is incredible to be a part of this amazing community of professionals who selflessly share their energy and expertise to further collaborative conservation efforts! Huge thank you to the team at Green Fin Studio and saltwater consulting RVA for stewarding the process. Piedmont Environmental Council for developing a suite of maps for the planning exercises. And of course to our amazing partner and funders from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for providing a Chesapeake WILD grant to make this all possible! #conservation #regionalconservationpartnership #collaboration

We are so excited to launch a new program to help agricultural producers in central Virginia access technical and financial assistance to improve their grazing operations! Thanks to a new grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the new “Trees for Shade” pilot program will focus on designing and installing silvopasture systems on pasturelands. These projects not only improve the health of local waterways, but also sequester carbon, improve soil health, provide forage and shade for livestock, and help facilitate rotational grazing practices. This is an excellent example of a partnership driven effort. Huge thank you to American Farmland Trust, York River Steward, Trees For Graziers, and all the other partners have supported this effort! Stay tuned for more information and additional opportunities!
Introducing the Trees for Shade Silvopasture Program! ?? The Rappahannock River Roundtable is excited to launch this initiative, offering agricultural producers technical assistance and cost-share funding to plan and implement silvopasture systems. These systems provide shade for pastures while enhancing grazing operations and promoting sustainable land management. Join us for a workshop featuring expert presentations, practical guidance, and the latest innovations in silvopasture. Connect with conservation professionals, explore available resources, and network with fellow landowners. ?SAVE YOUR SPOT NOW: https://lnkd.in/eTHcgMgw Special thanks to American Farmland Trust, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Trees for Graziers, and Friends Of The Rappahannock for helping make this event possible!
