ABOUT Friends of the Domes is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) established in 1989. We directly channel resources that make possible many of the educational and cultural programs at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory. Our support complements, but is separate from the support provided by Milwaukee County Parks. The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, lovingly referred to as “The Domes,” is a living museum. The Domes’ three architecturally unique structures are filled with plants and animals from across the globe from different climates. In addition to the main campus, the conservatory includes six propagation greenhouses and a greenhouse used for special events. MISSION The mission of Friends of the Domes is to provide inspirational experiences that restore connections to nature and community in a one-of-a-kind horticultural oasis at the heart of Milwaukee. VISION A world that loves nature and protects our planet. VALUES Collaboration Bringing resources and people together for community benefit. Conservation Preserving our innovative and iconic building while growing a love of nature that encourages sustainable living. Wellness Restoring human connection to nature that heals our mind and body. Equity Ensuring all members of the community have the opportunity to heal through nature.

During Friends of the Domes’ annual gala, we unveiled a brand new video featuring touching stories about the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory as well as The Domes’ importance in our community. Never in our history have we needed the community's support more than this moment. Friends of the Domes, Milwaukee County Parks and more are working to ensure our Domes Reimagined dream becomes a reality. The Voodoo Lily (Amorphophallus konjac) is blooming in the Tropical Dome, and looks absolutely magnificent! This striking plant is a relative of the Corpse Flower, giving off its stench to attract natural pollinators. Friends of the Domes proudly honors African Americans’ rich culture, contributions and achievements this Black History Month. Celebrate by experiencing a living connection to African landscapes at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory. The Domes features an extensive collection of African plants, highlighting the continent’s incredible biodiversity. Featured plant life from Africa inside the conservatory includes: ??? African False Hosta ??? Bird of Paradise ??? Columnar Euphorbia ??? Graskop Aloe ??? Mandarin Plant ??? Rosary Vine ??? Tongaland Cycad ??? Zulu Fig Tree ??? ZZ Plant ??? And many more! Additionally, The Domes is happy to share an opportunity to support a local Black-owned business during the conservatory’s café residency. Weekend visitors to the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory have been enjoying the outstanding beverages, delicious baked goods, and warm hospitality of Fruition MKE. Fruition MKE is serving espresso, lattes, hot chocolate, and bakery in The Domes lobby 9 am to 2 pm every Saturday and Sunday through April 5.
