Last month, FDR had the honor of hosting National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) employees for an insightful habitat restoration tour along our stunning river! The tour included visits to key restoration sites from Belle Isle to Celeron Island, showcasing innovative projects aimed at improving water quality, restoring native plant species, and providing habitat for wildlife. The Detroit Riverkeeper and other experts shared stories of the river’s history, challenges we face, and the inspiring successes of previous restoration efforts. ?? A big thank you to NOAA for joining us and for their ongoing support of habitat restoration! Together, we can ensure a healthier, more vibrant Detroit River for generations to come. ?? ?? Funding for these projects came from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and NOAA. ?? Join us in celebrating Tricia Blicharski's 15th work anniversary with Friends of the Detroit River! Beginning as a part time administrative staff, moving to the first full time staff, and then transitioning to the Executive Director of FDR has taught her one thing: that change is the only constant. As our Executive Director since 2021, Tricia has been a driving force behind our success, securing over $50 million for Great Lakes restoration and habitat improvements, expanding the Detroit River Public Advisory Council, and fostering vital partnerships. Her leadership has been instrumental in diversifying our income streams and ensuring the financial stability and future health of our organization. As restoration projects wrap up, Tricia points out that this is a transitional time for FDR and is looking forward to the changing landscape of work and financial stability that it brings. Tricia's commitment to our mission and her dedication to environmental stewardship inspire us every day. We're proud to have her at the helm and look forward to many more years of growth and impact under her guidance. She hopes to leave an overflowing legacy of the importance of partnerships, infusing them throughout the culture of FDR. Congratulations, Tricia! Here's to 15 amazing years and many more to come!??? ?? #WorkAnniversary #Leadership #GreatLakes #DetroitRiver #EnvironmentalStewardship #FriendsOfTheDetroitRiver
