The struggles Friends of Karen families face may appear to be a hurdle in recognizing the positive, yet year after year Friends of Karen children show us that love and appreciation so often grow stronger with struggle. That perspective helps these families recognize what fills their hearts with thanks. We are grateful for our own community at Friends of Karen; the resilient families, compassionate staff and volunteers and the generous donors. "What do we do when our hearts hurt?" asked the boy…"We wrap them with friendship, shared tears, and time, till they wake hopeful and happy again." “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse" by Charlie Mackesy Children's Grief Awareness Month is observed in November to raise awareness about the needs of grieving children, teens, and their families. Last month Friends of Karen provided bereaved siblings the time to share their tears, and express their hearts through music, art and other activities. They made connections to people like themselves and continued their connection with their sibling that died by sharing memories and discussing how they will continue to be part of their lives.
