Aging is inevitable. We can choose to age alone and isolated from friends, family, even the world. Or we can choose to age with dignity and independence with friends, family and our communities. The goal at ElderSource is to continue to serving our seniors, adults with seven county service area with such programs as the Aging and Disability Resource Center HelpLine, adults with disabilities, Veterans, the Mobile Resource Center, Elder Abuse Prevention, SNAP Nutrition Program, Transportation Services, LGBT Elders, Care Transitions Coaching, mental health services and so much more! You can help us ensure that seniors and their caregivers have support, access to care and the resources they need to live life to its fullest. We reach out to more than 12,000 people each year to people in our seven county service area including: Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia counties. The programs and activities of ElderSource are funded by federal, state and local grants as well as private donations and endowments. The mission of ElderSource is to empower individuals to age with independence and dignity by providing leadership, direction, advocacy and support for a comprehensive, coordinated continuum of care. This week, the Intersection of IDD and Alzheimer's Summit was held at ElderSource. Thank you to The ARC Jacksonville and Alzheimer's Association for brining awareness and support to individuals with IDD and their caregivers.
This week brought the Intersection of IDD and Alzheimer's Summit, hosted by the Alzheimer's Association? at ElderSource, Inc. I had the incredible opportunity to sit on a panel alongside some incredible people, discussing the critical intersection of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and Alzheimer’s disease. Did you know... -Individuals with IDD have a 50% higher chance of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia (ADRD). -90% of individuals with Down syndrome are at risk of an ADRD diagnosis before age 65. It’s never too early to seek support and resources for loved ones at risk. Thank you to the Alzheimer’s Association for hosting this vital conversation and providing education to families, caregivers, and professionals.
